Does anyone know the legal drinking age in greece?

Hi, i am going to greece on an 18-30 weekend, however i am a bit younger than my mates and will not turn 18 till 3 days into the holiday. We are going Falaraki in rhodes and i was wondering what the drinking age limit is? If it is 18 has anyone been and did they notice if they are strict with checking ids.

Thanks in advance.

PS we cannot go later as it costs an extra 100 quid each for being three days later.

Alcohol will not be served to anyone under 16.
I live in greece and the laws are not strict. Unless you're 12 and asking for a whiskey, dont worry you'll be fine.
have a brilliant holiday

The terrible, and wonderful at the same time, thing in Greece is that laws exist in the books but are not for human consumption.
You need not worry about your age. But do worry about your behaviour should you drink too much.

?
I live in Greece and i'm drinking since i was 13....
So yeah they don't really care....

Athena.
Normally is 18 but most serve you alcohol unless you're under 16.

The new law says that alcohol is forbidden to be served to ages under 17!

Well, you have to be 16 years of age to drink legally.

as it is well known for Leonarda, i am form Rhodes, and I have said it here. The average is 18 years, but in Greece unfortunately the laws are not so much respected
Concerning Faliraki, it is not a very nice place in the night especially for families, but for young people yes,.
No, I dont htink there is control there. The proff is that especially British young people they dont behave themselves, and nobody is controlling.I hope they got stricter rules because the situation was so bad..by the way dont forget to visit the different places of my island, and of course dont miss Lindos, where the night life is perfect, and also it is one of the most beautiful places of Rhodes.

magwai
where you are going there are no age limits
you can drink from any age you like

i'm guessing 18, since 18 year olds go drinking at the bars.

The legal drinking age is 18. Some places though have it as 17. Although this is the legal age, almost no place follows the law. You can go and buy a drink if you are 13. I've seen it.

Greece 17 Rarely enforced, except in certain chain restaurants (which have self proclaimed a 17 year old minimum drinking age). No legal age for drinking in private.

My greek friend said 17, althought the laws are not that strict, so if you look 17 or over you could get served lol.

you are going to alcohol paradise !!!!!
it is not that nice place ( especially for older people and small children) but i am sure, you are not going there for sightseeing...
in Faliraki they will never ask you if you are 18
(age limit is 18 in Greece, but in Faliraki nobody cares)
they serve cheep booze there, better buy your own in the shop

and please do not drive !!!!!

still 18 im afraid! .. i think anyway .. i had to have an adult band to get served when i went in august last year .. and you cant have an adult band until your 18 .. sorry if its rong!

I'm from Greece. Is legal for children to have alcohol by the age of 18. But this is not very applicable. Most children can have alcohol even when they are just 15y old. I'm in that age and if I lie I can buy alcohol without conciquences.

Takis
Nobody will ask you for an id either way. Have a nice time and drink as much as you can handle (make love not war etc, etc). legal limit is 17 but you can vote at 18 !!!(no sober person would vote).

PS watch what you drink, some bars serve cheap and bad alchool, buy some of your own boose at a super market.

16 in most places

yiotadelta
I believe it is 17 - anyway, unless you look like 12 - no one will ask for an ID, especially in a place like Faliraki (which is the only place any person should avoid on Rhodos). But I guess at 18 you would not be interested to indulge to other activities on the island, so in any case, party well (and as someone already advised you, beware of the drinks they serve, some are not really drinkable). And try not to do things you wouldn't dare do in England - the last years, because of a lot of negative publicity - the authorities try to reinforce order to the tourists.
