the southern tip of spain Gibralter is the point of the strait of Gribralter which seperates Africa from Europe and is the connection between the Atlantic ocean and the Mediterranean sea, it is under British rule although Spain has been fighting for it back,I believe most Gibraltons (?) have a majority vote to stay under British rule? it is duty free I believe there is a tunnel throgh the rock of Gibralter connecting it to spain of quite an engineering feat?

Forlorn Hope

Gibraltar is just off the coast of Southern Spain. It is dull, boring and way too British. It belongs to Britain but is in Spanish waters. It is a real bone of contention between the British and the Spanish. Gib. is one of the ugliest places you are ever likely to visit, it is basically a rock that juts out of the sea.

All the British stores are there, quite pricey too...although you do get the benefit of tax-free shopping which is not such a great bargain really as duty-free restrictions are very much in place (eg you are only allowed 200 cigarettes, I litre of spirits etc.) Most people go on a day trip and find that a day is just too long to spend in Gibraltar. In the summertime it is full of day-trippers and in the winter-time it is full of ex-pats getting their fill of British products.

You can take a trip to the other side of the rock and see the monkeys, have a very expensive lunch or go shopping, that is about it really

I would not even waste the money on a day trip if I were you..unless of course you feel the need to stock up from Morrisons, Boots etc. It really isn't worth the journey otherwise.

I work there.
I live across the border in Spain and drive across that border showing my passport on the way in and out.

It is attached to the tip of the Southern Spain about 90 kilometres west of Malaga.

It is 20 kilometres from the coast of Morocco which you can see across the Mediterranean most days.

It is a lovely place, very peaceful with many cultures interacting together. The main religion is Roman Catholic, but there aresignificant, Jewish, Muslim and Hindu communities who all get on together.
