I have asked the same question not so long ago. I had a chance to visit Northern Cyprus, and I couldn't do it in a "legal" way because I needed a visa which I didn't have. Southern part of Cyprus is a EU member and my country isn't, so I would have to go through a complicated procedure to apply for visa etc. Since we don't need a visa for Northern Cyprus (or Turkey), I wanted to know if it will be forbidden for me to go to Greece some day if I enter Northern Cyprus, and the answer was yes. But when I asked Turkish embassy in my country, Bosnia & Herzegovina, they said that they don't have to stamp your passport if you don't want to. They just give you a paper which says that you have entered their country, which you need to keep while you're in Northern Cyprus, and later you can just get rid of it. |

If you have entered Northern Cyprus from ERCAN airport (as the Turks call it) then you have entered a European State by an illegal (according to E.U. and UN) gate. Coming to the South might cause you serious problems.
(Detail: the airport is built on stolen land and most of the hotels there are stolen. Turkish goverment has been condemned by the International Court and is paying millions as recompense.) |

You bet. Don't even think about it. They might kill you. God forbid you visit Greece, the Europe's purest country, after you've been to Northern Cyprus. |

difficult? more like impossible!! Look, "Dude", no-one can tell you not to visit north Cyprus, but at least do it the legal way! well, i suppose you didn't, so you have to pay the price. too bad you had to visit that forgotten by god place and miss the chance to ever visit Cyprus or Greece, Europe's favorite destinations. |

There is independent Republic of Northern Ciprus.
Greeks, notorious like only they can be, forbid visiting N.C.
So, if one visits North, can not visit the south !
It is somekind EU standard about free move of capital, ideas and people... |

Nowadays you can visit occupied Northern Cyprus through the legal way, from the Republic of Cyprus. So why not do it this way? |

yes, travelers to Cyprus should enter the island via one of the legal entry points (i.e. entry points in the Southern part of the island) in order to visit the Southern part or Greece. the 'airports' in the north are illegal. |

I think that some of these answers come from people who already have issues with the legality of North Cyprus. I have visited the country twice, once via Ercan and once via Larnaca in 2003 and 2006. I never experienced a problem on either visit. On the occasion I travelled to Ercan, I also made a day trip to the South and despite the stamp in my passport was waved through without incident. I've since visited Greece and Corfu for holildays (beautiful) and never experienced a problem either. |
