Europe is way different than the US. Everyone speaks several languages.

I went into the Casino in Amsterdam across from the Marriott and of course they were speaking Dutch and I of course didn't. I spoke to the dealer in English and the whole table turned around and spoke English. I was a little taken by how polite they were about accommodating my friend and I.

There are some people who don't like Americans in Holland but for the most part they are civilized and decent people. When they weren't I looked at them like they were from another planet and went about my business.

No, most Amsterdammers speak English quite well. Dutch is more useful if you are leaving the Amsterdam area and heading to the East or North of the country.

The Dutch, along with Belgians and Norwegians probably speak better English than any other nation. NO you will not need a guide.

In my opinion, the Dutch are the friendliest people you could wish to meet (assuming that you aren't German).

Not at all; most people have at least some facility in English.

I would recommend when you begin speaking with someone that you immediately say something in English; that way they can adapt (as the person illustrated in the casino reference above).

For example, when I go into a store, they greet me in Dutch, and I say "Hello" or "good morning."

NO

I WOULD LOVE TO BE YOUR GUIDE

I cannot speak Dutch
The Dutch speak better English than I can

I just want to be your guide

No. They almost all speak English and from what I experienced, speak it better than most native speakers.

no most people speak english over there...but a locale tour guide does help you find the right things to see and do
