When using your debit card abroad for withdrawing money or for purchases there will always tend to be a small charge. The charge is mostly used as a charge for converting your currency to local currency. If you get charged a fee of 1.50GBP, then I suggest take a good lot out at a time to avoid withdrawing money every now and again at 1.50 a pop.

old know all
Open a Flexaccount with Nationwide. You don't have to close your Halifax account. You can then use your Nationwide credit or debit card abroad and just get a straight commercial exchange rate with no charges. What's more they don't pay me any commission for recommending them.

Penfold
Halifax will be able to tell you their 'partner' bank in Turkey. Alternatively, take out a Natiownide debit and credit card - Nationwide do not pass on ATM fees on their debit cards or take currency conversion fees.

Ipek K
Halifax would be able to tell you their correspondent bank. You should ask them.

All banks charge this apart from the Nationwide

The Tank
The Nationwide is the only place that I know of where you don't get charged for overseas cash withdrawals. Open a flex-account with them and use it for your foreign spending.

ipek
same in America too. When I used my credit card out of USA not only Turkey ,they are charging some kind of fee.they did it when I was in London.

tearsofthemoon00
Just bring cash and change it at a money exchange place.I go to Istanbul every year for the last 10 years,I rarely use my bankcard. You get a better exchange rate from a exchange place.Make sure the place you exchange is no fee. Some charge a fee and some do not.

Lynn C
no but we just opened a flexi account at nationwide we paid a fortune in charges this year,

bettina
Why don't you use your credit card while your in Turkey, that way you get 6 weeks to pay it off and only pay the exchange rate on the day you pay it.

Bit of bubbly at the shareholders' meeting. (Is that right? Shareholder's?)
