European City breaks - where to go..?

My fiance and I like to travel - we're looking for a city (in Europe) with lots of culture, things to do, places to go, etc - where would you recommend and why?

I can recommend the following:

Madrid - like a cleaner prettier London
Venice - romantic, beautiful and great fun on all the waterbuses
Rome - amazing buildings, The Forum is stunning, very historic and lots of culture
Prague - beautiful, cheap and full of history
Paris - The Eiffel tower and all the museams
Oslo - beautiful in the summer, great area around the harbour, small enough to walk all the way round, good food, but quite expensive - one of my favourites.
Latvia - great place, very cheap, wonderful food, the old town is really interesting, good nightlife.
Lisbon - wonderful place, good food, interesting sights, right on a huge river so lots of seafront type activities.
Reykjavik - expensive whilst you are there but absolutely stunning if you take trips out to all the waterfalls. The scenery is some of the best I have seen and a visit to the Blue Lagoon is a must.

The only places I personally have not liked so much were Berlin, but my husband loved it and Brussells which I did not enjoy at all, lots of men drinking very early in the day and absolutely no public toilets anywhere.......

Barcelona! Best six days of my life!

Check out the Picasso museum, Font MĂ gica, Las Ramblas (stop at FNAC for your DVDs and CDs and the Champion supermarket for booze), Sagrada Familia and the market on Las Ramblas which is a real treat!

Also, see if you can take a daytrip to Figueras to go to the DalĂ museum.

Berlin.

It's cheap, if you want, has lots of great Cafes and bars and is very vibrant. There is also great shopping, especially in the old East, in areas like Mitte and Prenzlaur Berg.

There is a sense of Europes recent history here, with the very recent fall of the Wall, and reunification with East Germany. This is reflected in many of the highlights of Berlin, like the Riechstag and the Holocaust Memorial. The city also has some great museums and art galleries.

Berlin is really most interesting in the old East, because there is still a bit of edginess remaining from when the wall came down. Individual and unique businesses are still common, and the area is home to a lot of interesting people who either originated in the east or travelled here post reunification to take advantage of the cheap real estate and lack of authority.

So, lots to look at and do, great place to go out, and Berlin is very easy to get to from London.

Amsterdam is an amazing city. Its compact so you can walk around it admiring the fabulous architecture. Its a real city of contrasts too - tons to see and do!

Berlin - Rich history, great clubs, good museums

Why not Ljubljana, Slovenia? You'll get lot of culture in several museums, events and other places, you have a lot of things to do, especially if you are into trying new things (like different sports etc.) and a lot of things to see: Ljubljana (castle, old town surroundings), Bled (romantic lake with fairytale castle over it and an island with a church in the middle), the Coast, the SoÄŤa Valley (wonderful nature with lots of possibilities for sports), spas, Ptuj (one of the oldest towns in Europe) and so many more.

Have a nice trip, where ever you will go!

We've been to several European cities and are favorites were Prague, Rome and Brugge in Belgium.

Prague is just so beautiful with its bridges and red roofed buildings. To see the Rome coliseum in real life is quite something not to mention the Trevi Fountain, the Forum, so much more. Brugge is so beautiful. It's reminiscent of Venice with its canals but, in my opinion, much prettier.

Istanbul...it is quite unique...and the part with the "must-sees" is on the European side. The city is steeped in history and architecture - I mean it's one of the pillars of civilization (birthplace of orthodoxy, homestead of the Ottoman Empire). As well it offers a lot of natural beauty - a cruise on the Sea of Marmara to the pedestrian only Prince's islands or down the Golden Horn and the Bosphorous is absolutely beautiful - the Istanbul shoreline/skyline is quite breathtaking from the water. Also you'll find that most of the food and accommodation is really good and reasonably priced. And if you haven't done so before, try smoking a nargila or hone your bargaining skills in the bazaars. Trust me you won't be bored in Istanbul!

Vilnius in Lithuania would be my suggestion. It is tipped to be the new Prague according to some of the travel magazines.

Plenty to see and do including the Clubs, Galleries. Reasonable prices too.

Enjoy.
