The Eurovision Song Contest 2009 will be the 54th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest and will be held in Russia, the country that won the 2008 contest during the final on May 24, 2008. Russia were victorious after Dima Bilan's "Believe" won the 2008 contest in Serbia with 272 points. The venue is yet to be announced.

Russia won this year, so they host it next year.
And no, we probably wont ever host it again, its all political nowadays unfortunately

Knownow't
The winner usually hosts it ....so Russia I suppose....I wont be going.

Edison
It will probably be in Russia seeing as how they have won this time. If the British entry ceases then so will the funding from the BBC. That will see the end of Eurovision, as the BBC are the major financial contributors. Why should our very high licence fees be used for something which is so unfair for our entrants? It should be about the song and how it is sung. It has become a farce.
I say get out of it now, and good riddance.

LabTech
Since Russia won this year it will most likely be in Moscow. No western european country will ever win nowadays as the voting is totally about sucking up to your neighbours and has nothing to do with the songs.

brandy
It will be hosted next in Moscow as the Russian won but it is high time the whole laughable charade was dropped. I can't see it has any merit except the laughable attempts to sing in outrageous costumes.

Eurovision 2009 will be in Moscow, Russia.

Yes, I think there is a chance that a western European country will host it again. Last year it was in Finland, don't forget that.

I think it's unfair that countries vote for their neighbours, because like that some countries have better chances than others regardless of the quality of their song/performance. I understand that sometimes it's a matter of some nations' taste being similar, but that is not always the case.

To be honest, I'm not surprised that the UK didn't do well. The singer was good, but the song was just too boring to compete with the rest. I think that if the UK sent better songs they would be more successful. I think it's also in a way a disadvantage for them to automatically go to the finals without having to compete in the semifinals first, like almost all the other countries have to. Europe had already heard once before all the songs that were in the semifinals, while they were hearing the British song for the first time. Naturally the songs we knew a bit better stood out.

Next year will be in Moscow because the winner always hosts the following year's competition.

The voting has always been slightly political, but usually in a fun way. This year the voting was politicised beyond a joke. Our entry this time was certainly not the best musically but it was far better than many (e.g. Spain) and so deserved more than bottom place, so did Germany's entry.
Because the BBC is one of the bigger sponsors of the show (with our money!) I really don't think that we got anything like value for our money.

There is no doubt that over the last few years the contest has become a Soviet Bloc stitch-up. It's apparent that these newly eligable nations aren't mature enough Europeans to play the game fairly and shouldn't have been invited to join the European Broadcasting Union (EBU); which is independant of the EU and must not be confused with it.

The Eastern Bloc have now effectively taken over the Eurovision Song Contest, so I propose that we leave them to it. We should then start an annual music contest (called the Democratic Eurovision Song Contest) and invite the following countries ONLY to participate:

UK, Eire, Malta, Israel, France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Luxemborg, Austria, Andorra, Lichtenstein, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Finland and The Isle of Wight.

Six simple rules will ensure fair play and fun for everyone.
Rule Number 1: You cannot vote for your nearest geographical neighbour.
Rule Number 2: All entries must be sung in their native tongue.
Rule Number 3: There will be no "qualifier" rounds.
Rule Number 4: There will be no "scope creep" (i.e. Eurosongs only and no additional countries permitted -ever).
Rule Number 5: Wogan (or whoever is commentating) can say whatever he likes about the entries but he must stop talking over the actual song or its intro. when it's being performed.
Rule Number 6: There will only ever be the afore-mentioned five rules.

It will be in Moscow. Voting for countries not songs as always happened. Try getting a decent entry for 2009, Mr Abraham's song was a reworking of a well known 80's hit....!

Luvfactory
The next eurovision song contest will be somewhere in Russia (probably Moscow) as the russian entrant won this time.
Is it fair that countries vote for their neighbours? I don't know if it is fair or not, but it is nice to see that neighbouring countries support each other. Usually neighbouring countries don't get on but it is nice to see that after all, they do.
Is there a chance that W. Europe will hold it again? Yes, there's every possibility for that. You must understand that these european countries hear enough UK and US cr*p on their radios and tv-s, they would like to hear music from surrounding countries as well. Just go to any country in Europe, tune to any radio station and you will hear 70% of the music is either from the UK or the US. The rest of the music would be home grown but nothing from other countries.
I understand that people from UK and US are not so interested in music from other parts of the world but other parts of the world have a wider circle of musical interests.

Russia won this year's eurovision! so obviously, it will be hosted in Moscow!!!!
this year i had no interest to watch it as Malta wasn't in the finals!!!

Russia is going to be the next host, cuz they won this year..

Poo Poo
personally I think it should be hosted in the interior of Mt Etna for all its worth these days.

And is it really true that the BBC are major financial contributors? Why on earth is that happening? Is that the ultimate in dumbing down or what? Couldn't they spend the money on another crappy "documentary" about airhead models with enormous breasts and her family?

gor_marx
09, Mos-cow or some other Russkiy town, maybe St. Petersburg, as they call Lenintown now, pretending they're not Commies any more.
But who cares? I saw EV yesterday and boy, am I happy to have left Eurotrash behind... the West is WAY better off handing that trash over to fukkin' Azerbeijans and Bosnias and Armenias anyway.
