For beaches that arent to crowded try beaches near Marinha Grande. Its roughly 120km north of Lisbon. I've been there and the beaches are perfect. Especially in July when most people are working and the beaches are not crowded. In august it tends to crowd up more. The ocean is wonderful for people of all ages.
Hope you have a fun time. |

Try Sao Martinho do Porto. Excellent beach, very quiet little town, south of Nazare. |

There are 100’s of beaches to choose from!
Your choice will depend on factors such as how much travel you are prepared to do; whether you want to be near the capital or a big city; what your budget is; whether you want a big expensive villa; whether you want to be relatively close to an airport and; when you can have the holiday, etc, etc.
For a hassle-free and good value holiday you want an impeccable apartment near a fantastic beach in a town with plenty to see and do…2 mins from the beach; the town, building (swimming pool included) and beach must be very clean and extremely friendly; near-by there must be lots of varied restaurants at affordable prices.
If at all possible try to avoid July and August since everyone is on holiday! And go down south to the Algarve where the water and sun are warmest.
Now consider Praia da Rocha in Portimão since it has all of the above!

Try the beaches in the Southwest in Alentejo: Comporta, Zambujeira do Mar, Santo Andre. Not crowded with turists and you still can see unspoiled nature.
Avoid Algarve in July and August.
The beaches in the North are also very beautiful, but the water is cold. |

Lagos it a nice place quiet beach. There is a great variety of things to see: The city center is sculped with traditional architecture and colors from the region. Beaches vary in shape and style from long sandy beaches to almost private ones hidden by cliffs.
Ponta da Piedade is a beautiful spot with a nice lighthouse from where you can make boat tours to the natural caves.
The harbour in the morning is full of activity, if you like to wake up early dont miss it. Also the fish market is an interesting spot.
I would avoid Albufeira it's noise and to built up remember the sea is the Atlantic ocean and is quite cold all year round |

The Beach at Estoril, which is east of Cascais. It's a fashionable and cosmopolitan resort. But for nice secluded beaches, I really wouldn't recommend Portugal. Try the the French or Spanish Med instead. |
