Airpole

For Greeks only .Is this question and the given answers making us proud ?

We talk about History when our "Mythos" is falling apart from the seams. I lost face just reading about it.

#1. Even if the question was posted by the usual English snob who thinks that a cheap packet of all inclusive travel, gives him/her the right to run down the whole touristic structure, it still is a no commentable picture

#2. As for rossi35, I return the epithet . Keep your eyes closed when you are at it.

I have to admit, sometimes the service in Greece in general is not the greatest, and I 've always been one to complain.
I grew up in Canada, and people always serve you with a smile, and are very polite.
My opinion changed slightly when I traveled last year being 7months pregnan.
I had horrible pains in my back due to pregnancy, and I was also really nautious, and dizzy. Yet even though I begged the flight attendant to let me board along with children and people with special needs so I could sit in my seat, they wouldn't allow me. Politely and with a smile, they let me suffer standing for another half hour. I wasn't allowed to take any food with me, I almost fainted on the plane from hunger, and to make a long story short, I had the most horrible flight ever, due to the service, even though it was always "with a smile".
On the other hand, at the greek airport, i was allowed to go first every time, flight attendants were so kind to me, brought me water everytime, and because I wasn't feeling very well, I had special treatment from everyone. No smile necessary!

Greek people it seems dont' go by the book. They'll be rude sometimes if they've had a bad day, but in the end they 're human. They 'll help you when you're in need, even if they have to bend the rules a little bit.
Yes we need to work on the service a lot. But it's not so much up to us, as it is up to people above us.
I personally thing Greek people are great. Above all they're human and they have a heart!

Being honest with ourselves there are lots of things that we have to improve, as far as the quality of services provided is concerned.
Still, Greece (both mainland and the islands) is considered to be a great and extremely popular travel destination. And I believe that is not only because of the sun and the beaches. It's the whole package, including accommodation, food, nightlife, outdoor activities etc.
Surely, as a Greek I'm not happy when I read bad critics and complaints, but I still believe that these are exceptions and not the general rule.

No, it is not making us proud. Zakinthos airport however is not the only one in Greece where tourists are treated rudely.

note to glljansen: I am not a spoiled tourist, so get off your high horse.

glljansen
I am not Greek, but I have been traveling to Greece and Islands since 15 years very often.
Building airports and tourist infrastructure on most popular islands and the mainland must have been quiet a task.
My opinion, you can be proud on one of the most dense network of airports in Europe, even if some of them do not please some spoiled tourists.

Greece (a country of just 11 million people) has more than 36 airports. The newest is in Kalymnos (with less than 5.000 inhabitants...).

Germany has 31 (Not all great and some are very small).

And if you wanna "loose face" then visit the Venice Treviso airport: it is just 1 room and looks like a petrol station...

Bottom line: take it easy. There are things that one could loose face in Greece other than its airports.

Gijlansen is very correct on this

I' surprised at the sensitivities of some of you people. So what. Some airports are better than others world wide phenomenon. So the airport sucks fair and good but so what. Its a transport convenience not a hotel. you are momentarily there in out . This is not to say that improvements should not be made but it's no such a big deal so as to lose "face" or have our "myth" busted.. What a personal tribulation to be without water for an hour or so. Worth an epic poem. Rude?? I've been to a lot of European airports where rudeness is the main philosophy. Δεν είμαστε καθόλου στα καλά μας.

Unquestionably, there are zillions of things that cannot make us "unproud". and it is up to us to correct them...if we can.
And please, let's start with the environment and our respect for the beautiful nature that the gods endowed us with. LETS KEEP IT CLEAN.

Greek - and we do need to change a few things ,but hey isn't it typical of foreigners to b!tch us down as they wish????common , how many times do we sit at the kaffenio and listen to them about this and that and you know what? most of the time it is the English ,I have said this over and over again! frankly I am sick about it! they come over and try to play the big hooyaa ,their superiority complex has been a weight on my mind for a long time!

screw them all!

While I'm not greek, my wife is. I fell in love with Greece when I started visting there on holiday - always Greece every year. I love the people, the climate and most of all the food. I ended up meeting my wife in Corfu, I now live there and have done for 3 years.

I feel I must apologise for my fellow English and their drunken antics while on holiday, refusing to at least learn how to say thankyou/please etc.

I have always found greek people to be a hell of a lot more friendly to foreign visitors than the english are to foreign visitors.

sry for posting on a 'greek only' answer, but I felt I had to say that not all 'tourists' are just here for the cheap alcohol / sunbathing, quite a few love the greek way of life too, some of us even stay ;)
