For a Russian man, is this normal? |
I have been friends with a Russian man for a short while. He is living in Norway, but he is Russian so I am asking here. He recently invited me to come visit him for a few weeks. I told him I could not afford it. But he offered to pay for everything: plane tickets, my food, anything and everything I need I will be depending on him for. I know he is well off money wise, but I was shocked and felt kind of guilty because it should not be his responsibility to take care of me. He said he wants to, and it is normal for Russian men to be able to pay for a woman.
Is this normal?... I don't know what to think. I'm just a little (ok alot) nervous and would like some input... Please |

personally I would refuse his offer, if he's paying for everything that gives him control and maybe also he will feel it gives him rights to make demands of you?
I would continue your online friendship...and make that short while into a long time
I had an American friend who fell for a similar trick, and all he wanted was entry into USA via a quick marriage. No amount of money can buy citizenship
Good Luck |

Yes, it is perfectly normal. In Russia, boys are taught to be gentlemen at a very young age, which is one of the things I miss the most about Russia. Guys there are actually gentlemen, can you believe it? |

Yes, it is normal...in America we'd think of it as a man being sketchy...but in Russia men are supposed to be gentlemen )) |

Yes, Russian men for the most part just such. But if you are familiar with him recently - not to suffer the fate - better to try a man. |

most russians are natural born gentelmen, but you have to show him some appreciation |

Go for it and don't worry. Just be your self, don't lick, but let him know that it was really appreciated. |

I'm Russian. Yes, it's normal. For instance, if you go to a restaurant, or go together somewhere to spend your holiday, etc. It's a norm, that the man defrays all expenses. You can make your small contribution, just to show your independence, but it is rather an exception. And usually, a Russian feels very ashamed, if a woman pays for him or for joint spendings. So, do not make him suffer. But just in case keep a contingency sum with you.
May be in the future this rule will change, but by now it remains so. |

Yes, it is normal.

hmmm....only knowing him a short while doesn't seem to me to be long enough for a big step like that. It would be easier if you could take someone with you, or save the money and let your friendship progress. What worries me is when he says "its normal for men to pay for women" i say hold your horses for the time being. |
