Both, but as i am a ''lover''of Marmaris...certainly Marmaris...All green, so nice, and with some great places as Turunc, Icmeler...Mugla too, the city, it is so colourful...Dont miss it...They call it yesil Marmaris= green Marmaris because of the green, you ll see mountains, and suddenly a beach hidden behind all this green..It is really a paradise... |

My first reaction on reading your question was to suggest Marmaris but on second thoughts I would go for Bodrum.
Neither of the two resorts has a particularly good beach - there are beaches of sorts and definitely good swimming opportunities but don't expect Copacabana. They both have good restaurants. They both provide good shopping opportunities. They both have scuba diving. Bodrum has more of the wild party scene which you say you don't want.
HOWEVER - I'm not into clubbing etc but would choose Bodrum every time.
Why? Because Bodrum is on a peninsula that has villages providing every contrast and alternative. My personal favourite is Gumusluk, a beautiful fishing village with visible historic remains and retaining its own unique atmosphere. Bodrum town also has the attraction of the castle, not only important in its own right as a crusading centre but now also the hub of the underwater archaeology of the Mediterranean with world class exhibits of ancient boats, cargos, amphorae, glass etc. You can spend many a peaceful hour exploring this. Yes, bodrum is famous for its pubs and clubs but it has far more to offer. I've had many enjoyable holidays there without joining in the wild party scene. Marmaris always seems a bit plastic in comparison.
Wherever you end up, I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time.

If you prefer the quieter ambiance and water sports, I would definitely suggest Marmaris.
Bodrum has become- unfortunately- a big party town. |

my husband and i are in the same age group. i would have picked Bodrum for the nights and Marmaris for the relaxation, although it is a party town in Marmaris at night as well... |

well bodrum has both sides to it. party life, and the kind u want life!! marmaris is too commercial. i would suggest going to bodrum. my aunt mom and i went to years ago, and now my mom(38 years old) wants to go again! so if she likes you will too!! but then again, in Turkey, you can go anywhere and it will be beautiful and fun!
enjoy your visit!

According to your demands best choice for you will be KaÅŸ I think. It's 2 hours of bus ride to Antalya bus station.
You'll find everything you need there. You can take boat tours to see the under water city of Lidya, you can do paragliding. It has a very relaxing and friendly atmosphere.
And KaÅŸ is the place if you want to do scuba diving. You'll find many scuba diving centers around the town and the sea is perfectly clean. The town has a beach called KucukCakil where you can enjoy your drink, sun bath and swim. There are also many beaches which are very close to KaÅŸ, like the famous Patara beach. And there are small boats which you can take for a sail to other beaches in 10-15 minutes.
Rooms are really cheap and you won't have to make reservations ahead. Just take a walk around the town and you'll surely find a hotel or pension with clean, air conditioned rooms for a moderate price (just do not check in the first hotel you find).
KaÅŸ doesn't have a crazy party scene like Bodrum. However that's not what you are looking for. |

Hey Dude,
These two places are completely different from each other.
Never go to Bodrum if you do not want the wild party scene with many drunk rednecks.
The place called Icmeler near Marmaris is just the one you described above. Find a good hotel there or stay at Club Maris between Marmaris and Datca. I assure you are gonna have an incredible holiday. This place should be expensive like 130 to 150 bucks a night per person. |

Bodrum has become a kind of Saint-Tropez,you know...And they even try to look like a turkish version of Ibiza...Night-clubs, techno-dance music , topless people, drag-queens, cosmopolitan and gay...Europeans sometimes call the city "Bedrum"...If you want to meet and see many Brits, the best choice is Bodrum...
I don't really know Marmaris, but I think it's much more quiter, and probably you'll appreciate it better... If you really want to have a rest...
Enjoy Turkey ! |
