Watch out for some of the cab drivers they may try to overcharge you. Ask hotel staff and other people in the industry and find out what the going rate is for tourist type costs. Greek people are very friendly and hospitable.
Watch out for the ouzo. It can hit you hard.
Don't drive there. They drive like freaking maniacs!!!!!!!!!
If you are looking for love watch out for the Greeks, they are beautiful people!

If you are travelling from Australia and have and Australian passport or dual citizenship, you are entitled to use the services of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. http://www.dfat.gov.au/

This site has travel advice on the left hand side of it. You can contact them via telephone or email for any further information or contact and embassy during your travels.

It may also be worth noting that in the current economic climate that the $A is diving fast in relation to the $US and the Euro. To check for the exchange rate go to the Reserve Bank web site. http://www.rba.gov.au/

Happy travelling!!!

Nothing more or nothing less than any tourist should be aware of when they travel to a foreign country.

Keep in mind the emergency number for all services (112, you can call it from a cell phone or a regular phone) such as police, ambulance, fire department), don't drive in Greece unless you familiarize your self with local traffic rules and customs, don't eat anything you think might get you sick and most of all... relax, don't come on over overwhelmed with fear about what might happen.
..see, what might happen, can always happen in your country as well... :-)

Enjoy your stay!

Pickpocketing, purse snatching, luggage theft, muggings and other crimes against foreign visitors are on the rise. Remain vigilant and ensure personal belongings, passports and all other travel documents are secure at all times. Do not show signs of affluence. Do not walk in the Athens district of Monastiraki or Omonia or around the two railway stations of Larissa and Peloponissos after dark. Avoid secluded areas. parks and down-market bars and restaurants especially after dark. The tourist police number is 171. The emergency number for police, ambulance, fire and coast guard services is 112. This 24-hour service for visitors is available in English and French.

no problem at all
greek people is fantastic people

taxi drivers = charging more....(example 50 euros instead of 2,80) prices more than 7-8 euros inside Athens are suspicious ;-) hmmm what else...ah yeah...DON'T go to Omonia square and the nearby streets alone for ANY reason..have a nice time

Enjoy yourself! That's all! Take any precautions you'd take normally anywhere, like not get drunk in a bar alone with unknown guys or sth.
Oh, and beware of taxi drivers, they may try to rip you off (moneywise).
And although you can enjoy fish etc., I wouldn't eat shellfish in Athens, very likely you'd be fine, but I got a food poisoning with them twice!

Well I would not listen to anyone saying Greece is more or less dangerous than any other European country. The general rule applies - don't go to dark places at night :-)

But to answer your real question:

1. Taxi drivers in Athens (everyone mentioned that).

2. Transportation is still bad in Greece. Almost everywhere. Public buses in Athens is a nightmare to get since there is no information about the routes on the spot. Metro serves only a few areas but it does so well. If you're going to the islands then watch out for the ferries schedule. Do not rely on it and check www.openseas.gr to verify that your ferry is indeed on schedule.

3. No as much a warning, but keep in mind that some Greeks will bargain will you when you need to buy something. Not all, but quite a few. From accommodation to shops.

Don't bother listing to plostad or Laoplano they are both FYROMians jealous of Greeks and Greece. Unfortunate incidence happen in every country.

Like anywhere else you travel just be vigilant and aware of your surroundings. Don't do anything that is unlawful, you don't want to be caught in another country's legal system. And the best place you can check for warnings to whatever country you travel is with your own government. Not sure where you are from but the State Department has great up to date warnings of what you should watch out for in the countries you travel. Bascially if you don't get into discussions about politics and soccer you should be ok....my advice has always been no matter what country you travel to, keep your politics and soccer teams at home cause they might not agree with the country you are visiting. ;-)

Is that all there is?
