Besides the obvious, ie., using an insect repellent, try the following: don't use perfume and avoid anything that contains perfume (try to take unscented body lotion, deodorant, hair products, etc); avoid wearing black of any other dark colours as these attract the little blighters; when you're choosing your holiday clothes, try to get them rinsed in unperfumed fabric softener (if such a thing is available!); at night, use a Raid plug-in (you insert a tablet into the device) - these are really good, but they don't kill the mozzies, only make them leave the room, so they need to be able to get out! Also, if you don't mind taking anti-histimine tabs whilst you're on holiday (Boots one a day - don't make you drowsy) your allergic reaction won't be so severe if you are bitten. Have a great holiday!

During the day spray yourselves with insect repellent and at night get a mosquito net to cover your bed if you can - it'll prevent you being eaten alive when you are asleep. There's nothing worse than waking up to buzzing in your ear or feeling them land on your skin!!

Tiara
here in Greece there is a really good lotion or spray that you can apply on yourself, it's called autan and it works wonders, they don't bite. i use it for my kids.

start eating either marmite or take some garlic capsules right now ! their are various creams and sprays but generally they might work or they might not - don't wear perfume in the evenings and don't use any strong fragrant soaps/shower gels etc

Slinky Malinky
Well really you should start taking garlic capsules a week before, so start today. This makes you blood smell horrible to them.
Next thing buy some jungle formula spray. You can buy it in any chemist, about £4.99.
Thirdly a plug in Zapper if you like, about £10, or take a citronella candle and light it in the eves when you are getting ready.
The zappers will be really easy to buy at the airport BTW.
Have a wonderful time. Corfu is great, try Kassiopi for a day or night out. Beautiful

You will get bitten mostly at night. Buy a plug in liquid repellent for your room, and no matter how hot it is, don;t leave the windows open!!! If your room has shutters, pull them down and have the windows open, use the air con if you are hot. When you go out to eat is when the mossies also have a feast, on your ankles!! Put loads of repellent around your ankles and feet. If you do get bitten, don;t scratch that's when the bite comes sore and infected. Vinegar and lemon juice will help ease the itching.

Say away from open water at night and buy a plug in repelent, it lets out a low frequency sound and a small amount of pesticide that kills and scares mozzies away.

yeah dont look at them or stop to talk to them and they wont give you any hassle, and if walking home late at night walk in well lit streets and with a friend if possible and you should be fine, play safe ;-)

The only repellent I can guarantee you no bites (tested by me in the jungle over long periods while doing archaeological excavations) is sold by www.travellinglight.co.uk! Get the 95% DEET! DEET is the active ingredient in repellents that keep bugs from coming, in regular ones sold everywhere, there is only a bit 12% or so. See Wikipedia!
Once bitten, amoniac is the best to take the itchy feeling away!

The Pmiester
definately get fly/mozzy repelent, and when going into house/room late at night, do not turn on the light !
All the best
Alex

sammy
eat marmite the mozzies hate it

Natural Repellents

These natural products will effectively repel mosquitoes, but they require more frequent reapplication (at least every 2 hours) and higher concentrations than DEET. Because of the differences between types of mosquitoes, products that contain multiple repellents tend to be more effective than those containing a single ingredient. As you can see, natural repellents tend to be volatile plant oils.

Citronella Oil
Lemon Eucalyptus Oil
Cinnamon Oil
Castor Oil
Rosemary Oil
Lemongrass Oil
Cedar Oil
Peppermint Oil
Clove Oil
Geranium Oil
Possibly Oils from Verbena, Pennyroyal, Lavender, Pine, Cajeput, Basil, Thyme, Allspice, Soybean, and Garlic
Another plant-derived substance, pyrethrum, is an insecticide. Pyrethrum comes from the flowers of the daisy Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium.
