Bring euros with you, but once you get to Turkey, exchange them for lira as needed. Don't exchange more than you need for a given day (unless you're going to be travelling through small towns), as the lira has been known to fluctuate wildly against hard currencies. |

My friend Helen here swears that Euros are the way to go: she spent only them in Turkey this year: maybe you need some lira for local shops but resorts' shops and main shpoopping areas etc are well set-up to take the Euro and you can easily see the price you're paying. |

New Turkish Lira (YTL) is the currency used throughout Turkey. In the resort areas you will be able also to use Euros, Sterling or dollars. You get a better exchange rate in a Turkish "doviz" than you would at home. |

We are going to Marmaris again in 3 weeks time, we have been 3 times before, we are taking a few Lira, but mainly the £10.00 note which can be exchanged anywhere, on the boat some the price was £10 or 25 euros The markets also accept the £10 note, but remember to barter
You can change sterling for Lira anywhere in Turkey |

Both. €1= 1.77 YTL (new turkish lira). But the rate changes everyday (nor much though). It is very easy to exchange your euros from either banks or exchange offices. Also bring your credit cards. All are accepted. Do not exchange euros in hotels or shops as they may give a lower rate. |

from the web page ..
The official currency of Turkey is the Turkish lira (TL), although the money was called the Turkish pound in Ottoman Turkey. There are 100 Kurush to every unit of Turkish currency (TL) but because inflation is so high in Turkey Kurush are rarely used. Metal currency in Turkey consists of coin money that comes in 500, 1000, 2500 and 5000 Turkish lira. Paper currency in Turkey comes in 1000, 5000, 20,000, 50,000 and 100,000 money notes although with inflation continuously on the rise it is likely that money of higher denominations will be introduced in future.
Much more at web page .. |

I got back from Marmaris yesterday morning from a two week hol, they prefer the Sterling so take plenty of Sterling and rest in Lira.
The best place to eat in Marmaris is Faros beach pub they take the Sterling/Euro/Lira as payment and it's open to 3am the staff remember what you drink and they enjoy a laugh.
I don't know if you know that each restaurant has chairs on the beach and that restaurant takes your drink orders on the beach, but don't move to anther chair out side another restaurant as they don't like it.
If you want more info let me know i can tell you more about places to eat and see and about the Market and so on.
I like Marmaris so much i'm going back to where i stayed next year book direct. |

You can buy YTL (Yeni Turk Lirasi- New Turkish Lira) in every bank (including small towns ) or exchange office Turkey. And buying YTL in Turkey will be benefit of you, because of its low convertibilty (You can check for conversion rate http://www.tcmb.gov.tr/). If you do not want to carry whole money with you, I advice you go to a bank and open an account (if u wish u may have two one for YTL other for Euro) at the Turkish airport.. |

You could change a small amount of sterling into Turkish Lira before you come, just in case you want to buy refreshments before you get a chance to go out and look for a change office. Otherwise, just bring Sterling, which can be easily changed in any Post Office, Bank or Change Office. (Make sure they're not going to charge you a fee, as this is not usual). The rate in Turkey at the moment is around 2.5YTL to £. Better still, leave most of your cash in the bank and just use your Debit Card to withdraw money as you need it, along with a Credit Card in case of an emergency. Turkey has plenty of cashpoints for travellers to use. By the way, there's no advantage to bringing Euros rather than Sterling, as you would only need to change the Euros to our legal tender, ie., Lira! |
