Good holiday locations in Britain? |
We're going to Canada for two weeks at the beginning of our summer holidays but, our school holidays are 2 months and so we'd like to go away again at the end of the summer.
We'd like to go someone in the country, possibly where there are beaches and lovely country walks. Not busy places like Cornwall but not completed isolated from society either. We have two dogs, so doggy friendly parts of the country.
We live in Liverpool and have family in Yorkshire so aren't looking to holiday in the North West of England or Yorkshire. Every year we go to Scotland and so we don't want to go there either and also not the Lake District because we often go up there with my dad. Anywhere else is fine!
So does anyone know of good places to holiday in the UK?
thankyou Additional Details BIg Al- that was completely unecassary. If you didn't have a relevant answer then why did you even bother answeing the question? |

We live in Blackpool but our favourite place in this country to holiday is Caister. Caister is near Great Yarmouth. There are many country villages around that area plus the beaches are great. It is very dog friendly. Our collie dog goes with us. We often stay at Haven Holiday camp at Caister which is also very dog friendly, lovely for children and adults with direct access onto a dog friendly beach.
Have a nice holiday !!! |

Some of the answers raised an eyebrow! I know there is some xenophobia towards immigrants.... but (a) tourists? and (b) British tourists? - perhaps everyone should be born, bred, live in and never leave the village - except those people are generally known as village idiots, so I'll say no more!
Anyway, two area's spring to mind. The first is South Wales in the Gower region http://www.enjoygower.com/index.cfm and there you have beaches and also hills on your doorstep. Lovely area, but it can sometimes get a little busy on the actual penisula. Symonds Yat is lovely to visit http://www.enjoyengland.com/destinations/find/heart-of-england/herefordshire/symonds-yat.aspx http://www.picturesofengland.com/England/Herefordshire/Symonds_Yat/pictures and also the Forest of Dean for walkers http://www.visitforestofdean.co.uk/
The other is the Cotsworlds. Lots of beautiful little villages, roving countryside with plenty of space and walks. The only thing it is missing is beaches, but it is a beautiful area. http://www.the-cotswolds.org/top/english/intro.shtml
Hope you get some good idea's anyway, and ignore the "village idiots" |

Hi there.
You haven't left much of the country!
You have a decision now between East Anglia, Dorset and South Wales. Of the three I would go to South Wales as being stunningly beautiful, excellent for dogs and a bit closer.
Mind you, I have just come back from Wiltshire/Dorset and it was fabulous, Avebury, Stonehenge, Maiden Castle, Chesil Beach, Old Sarum - I love that Iron Age stuff, maybe that would be better for you.
Good luck, Steve. |

The Tors Hotel in Lynmouth is great.
They even allow well behaved dogs to stay in the hotel with you.
Here is the website...

I know you said not Cornwall, but give it a shot. Newquay is great, but it's true that it may be quite busy, so why not look at smaller locations that are nearby.
If you look at Perran sands, its in Cornwall quite close to newquay. Its full of sand dunes and great for walking dogs. There were many when we visited.
Although Perran sands is actually a Haven resort, the sand dunes stretch far out of the actual site. There is also a beach where not many people go, so you can always look there.
If you are looking for a good beach and go to the Newquay area, then you've got plenty to choose from. If you stand at Fistral beach facing out towards the sea, you will see that the sea front of the buildings stretches around the corner on your left side. If you follow the road round here, named Esplanade Rd, you will find a large grassy area, kind of sticking out into the sea, where you can walk the dogs as you like. It's only round the corner from the Centre, but it is very quiet and popular with dog walkers. As you are walking, on the other side you will see a beach as you look down the cliff side. It's quite excluded and not many holidaymakers in Newquay know about it, but even when busy there is so much room anyway you can't go wrong. The sand stretches back quite a while, maybe half a mile/mile or so and is huge. Also popular for people with dogs.
It can be quite a walk to the sea depending on where you've set up on the beach, but there is a large stream running down the side, and also various little water sources that run into this stream. Great for dogs again, and if you're looking for calm water to paddle in.
It doesn't matter where you are, it's just finding the quiet areas to go. If this isn't appealing I suggest Torquay, little town, great for walking, best beach is in Paignton about 10 minutes drive from the Centre. |
