Thew bad can happen in every country, this doesnt mean that it can affect the tourism..You go to Corfu, Corfu is not affected by the fires...
Bear in mind that also in Europe in winter there are desasters because of the weather, but people travel..
Dont worry, there is no any problem, the fires are far away from where you go...

May God help us, if in 3 weeks time you expect the fires to be still on !

...
Not be so selfish and thoughtless?

What is your problem, there are people dead and all you can think of is yourself and your bloody holiday?

Do you REALLY think it is still going to be on fire 3 weeks from now? And do you think that the WHOLE of Greece is one big inferno? And do you think your plane is going to be flying right into it????

Nickynackynoo
Hi Ferret, it's awful, but not all of Greece is affected. Most of the fires (it's speculated) have been started by irresponsible farmers who decided to burn their fields so the new grass comes through for their cattle. It's not the heat that starts the fires, it;s humans but the flames are fanned by the fierce winds that we have.

Where are you going in Greece? Most of the fires are in mainland. The islands aren't too bad, I'm in Kos and we had one here last month but no-one was hurt.

cpinatsi
Don't panic and don't worry. 1st of all, in three weeks things will be fine. Second, I don't suppose you are going on holidays in the mountains and the forests. If you come to Athens and then off to a couple of islands, you will face no problem at all. Most islands have no forests anyway. Just avoid hiking in forests, in mountains, etc.

You will be by the sea, so don't worry. Avoid the mainland if temperatures are too high and the winds blow strong. And don't go anywhere on foot (like hiking).

jayktee96
Depends where you are going but it will have probably burnt out or be under control by the time you get there. There will be a lot of burnt out land though, and probably a lot of bereaved families.

Hi I leave in Greece and in fact up to now the deaths are 62. the situation is tragic but it is limited in Peloponiso and in a small area in Athens... So, if you are about to visit these places give it a second thought but if you are not you should definitely come cause it is a really cool and beautiful place with nice people, nice seas and so much more...
hope we see you in our beautiful Greece....

diamonds
yes, what a tragedy!! however, your tour operator will move you to a safe place if your accomodation is in a dangerous area..so dont worry.

it will all be under control also by the time you go.

slaveof12gods
there are a lot of places that will be fine - so no worries!

Thanks for your concern (today 63 dead)
Unfortunately Greece does not fair well under pressure. Greece is a country that sits back until tragedy strikes and then wonder why they're not prepared to deal with situations ( as is/was the case in the Peloponese. Fire fighters are/were doing what they can but there was just not enough man power nor aircraft available. You have to understand that yesterday it was not just the Peloponese burning but also Evia, Zakynthos, Varkisa(athens), Ioannina and various other places. This morning a fire has been reported on the island of Kefalonia. Fire fighter's were torn as what to save yesterday the ancient Olympia or forest - it's a case of damned if they do - damned if they don't. Unfortunately reporters were on the scene - blaming fire fighters for their slowness in responding to cries of help (all will be revealed as the days go on). It was very upsetting last night to hear phone calls to TV channels from villagers trapped (their village surrounded by fire) in churches, schools etc begging for help - one woman said they were in the river hoping to be rescued. Unfortunately this disaster will turn into a political slanging match with everyone blaming the other - elections are in Sept so I'm sure this will be used against the current government.
It's likely the death toll will rise as many villagers refused to leave their homes - many old people had to be dragged away. Many problems arose when villagers refused to leave until it was too late.
I hope I've shed light on what's happening in Greece.
Unfortunately I have heard the comment of ' The turks did it because they don't want us to have tourists' This is Greece and the need to lay the blame is high whether it be fire fighters/government or the incredibly stupid comment about Turkish people.
Lets hope that the fires start to burn out - although this looks unlikely on Evia as the weather forecast is for force 8 winds for the next two days.
Please European countries send help as France/Spain and Italy have already done. Where's the UK?????

If you are going to go in Greece in 3 weeks i think that all this horrible this that happened in Greece will be over. The point is were are you going to go and how close it is to all those fires.
But i think you should go (if of course there are no fires anymore) and if you decide to go the government in Greece made some bank accounts for the people that their houses and villages burned you could offer some money so that they could rebuild their houses,(it's your decision anyway) .

don't worry think that my house was almost burned.the best you can do is to go on holiday at an island of Cyclades where there is not much trees.and also in 3 week from now it won't be burning anything.so u can come here,i believe....
