There isn't such a name in Greek although the surname certainly sounds Greek. Below is a list of similar first names, which might give you a clue.

Aggelos, Antonis, Apostolos, Argiris, Achilleas, Aleksandros (other versions of this name: Aleksis, Alekos), Athanasios, Alkiviadis (Alkis), Andreas, Anestis.

If nothing of the above rings a bell, chances are we are dealing with a foreign name or a nickname.

I am sorry but there is no Greek name starting with Allat -

How about Allati?

I think it means salt.

maybe a bit of salt on your wounds?

sorry all I could come up with on short notice.

No - Greeks have a baptized name and a nick name.

There is no Allat saint as far as I know, and having a nick name of salt???

No make sense to me.

I don't think there is any greek name starting with Allat. The closest I can think of is Alexander. Is it possible the person you met was not Greek, but just lived in Greece? There are many Albanian immigrants in Greece with strange names (strange as not Greek).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allat

"According to the Book of Idols (Kitab al-AsnÄm) by HishÄm b. al-Kalbi, the pre-Islamic Arabs believed AllÄt resided in the Ka'ba and also had a stone statue form in the sanctuary. B. al-Kalbi writes (N.A. Faris 1952, pp. 14-15):

Her custody was in the hands of the BanÅ«-AttÄb ibn-MÄlik of the ThaqÄ«f, who had built an edifice over her. The Quraysh, as well as all the Arabs, were wont to venerate AllÄt. They also used to name their children after her, calling them Zayd-AllÄt and Taym-AllÄt. [...] AllÄt continued to be venerated "
