Butterflies in my stomach

Greeks doesn't this bother you?

That there are Gorgeous neoclassical buildings in the cities of Austria,Germany,France,US, but none of those beautiful buildings are found in the birthplace of it all -- GREECE! Why doesnt the stupid government start building those works in Greece.. After all, it is the homeland of where these buildings should be built.. if not in it's own birthplace, then where else ??

There are neoclassical buildings especially in Athens, Patras, Volos, Nafplio, Thessaloniki or Syros and many places around Greece. You have to look out for them.
Some are abandoned, some are still used and in good condition.
But the sad truth is that Greeks do not pay so much respect to them. Don't forget that many people during the junta and later happily exchanged their neoclassical building for a concrete monster and some cash. Also the fact that two neoclassical buildings will be bulldozed in order for the customers of the new Acropolis museum restaurant to have a view to the Acropolis while eating their overpriced steak.

Think about it: even the Ministry of Culture does not care.
It's sad, sad, sad and outrageous at the same time.

Neo-classical architecture is a Greek inspired but not Greek. From Palladio to Wren and a number of others in between, you find neo-classical buildings all over the world.
I could possibly use a parallel: The word "Metropoliticos" was exported and the French used it for their underground, but shortened it to "Metro". Now, the new underground in Athens is called by many "Metro". It is paradoxical to return "home" having been altered and possibly prostituted.
Neo-classical architecture had its place and time. Let's move on to the 21st century.

recently I saw a documentary in a locan newspaper (Thessaloniki)
it shows the city as it was in the first half of 19th century.
Amazing buildings! so beautiful, so unique!
Thessaloniki was such a unique city! I really got impressed!
but then, later when the industrial era began, Karamanlis (the old one)gave the license to building companies to destroy and build new houses where the old ones used to be!
as a result, the Paralia of Thessaloniki is full of ugly and huge buildings!Only Aristotelous street has something of the past century, some beauty that makes the city different from other Greek ones

I really say this is a shame

we should love our country more and less ourselves

And I will add: ask also all the governments before this one, the ones which governed after world war II.

Catherin you're awesome!!!

There are gorgeous neoclassical buildings in Greece too. Athens and Syros, mostly, buta also Nafplio, etc.
Building new ones is not the answer. Each time has its own expression. Poor imitations of neoclassical buildings constructed nowadays are just kitsch. Who can create the exquisite marble work of neoclassicism?

Alana Awareness
I agree with you

To crystal1... You only wish Cleopatra was Greek. She was a Macedonian!

Greece isn't the home place. It's Egypt. Greeks came from Asia and invaded the Illyrian territories.
