To be honest, I'm not sure if Macedonia is economically the poorest country in ex-Yugoslavia, I would have to check the figures (but Trotsky is right, Kosovo is probably the poorest part, and just like she said, that is mostly Serbian fault).
To Ignorant Fool (what a convenient name... LOL): You really don't know anything about ex-Yugoslavia. I'm from Bosnia and let me tell you. It wasn't our choice to have a war, you can be sure we are not happy to have hundreds of thousands of dead people and even more who lost their families and homes. In case of the whole ex-Yugoslavia, blame Serbs and their politics, and in the case of Bosnia you can blame Serbia and Croatia (especially Serbia) for having big aspirations on our territory.
I have to admit that Trotsky deserves more than just one thumb up. When I agree with someone, I give them a thumb up, but if I could, I would give her at least 5 every time... LOL :) |

What does this have to do with traveling to Greece? |

I dont know why but it certainly must be the most poor.
Proof?
Unlike any other Balkan country, FYROM is the only one attempting to steal Greece's History...
PS. I am proud too you are FYROMian :-) |

Because you don't have to work. You live consuming Alexander's glory, DNA purity, "Macedonian" pride and all that jazz. |

You are not poor. You have a rich heart, ready to hug the whole world. Greece included. |

Yes, we are the only Third-World country in Europe |

Yes it is the most poor but I don't know why.
Kosovo is not a globally recognised country so you can't count Kosovo's economy into this figure. |

Given the latest developments, Macedonia is not the poorest. Albanians in Kosovo, were unfortunately the poorest group of people thanks to the Serbs, not Macedonians. Other than that, Macedonia is not an EU member, thus they are not as lucky as those countries that achieved some degree of prosperity due to EU funds and boast about them here and there as if it is a well-deserved result of the exhaustive hard work achieved by the citizens of these countries.
Let me also add that I find the masquerade pertaining to this troll's so-called Macedonian identity far from decency and honesty. |

I don't know why this has anything to do with traveling or with Greece.
What does Greece has to do with prosperity in former yugoslavia? Does the name dispute prevents you from prospering?
But I think the thing with Serbia, Bosnia and Fyrom is that instead of trying to develop their countries after the fall of former yugoslavia they rather get into wars and purposeless diplomatic disputes.
Nationalism is so 19th century. |

You ask us, Greeks, why your country is poor. As you understand this is something that you, and only you, will have to think about.
Why should we know something about it?
About the degree of prosperity, countries like Spain, Portugal,Ireland and Greece achieved due to EU help, first of all Spain took an advantage of it quickly. But...Greece has the greatest developement degree in EU the last 10 years and of course this is a result of hard job.
Especially if you think that this country started LITERALLY from nothing. Imagine that Athens was using the same aqueduct from the times of Justinian and throughout the Ottoman Era till 1830(modern Greek State). Not to mention of course that refugees from Turkey,Bulgaria etc. were somewhat more than 1/3 of the Greek population after 1923(3.500.000 population and about 1.700.000 refugees added). Many, many people migrated to Germany, Sweden, USA and they worked very hard (most of my relatives). Most of their kids have returned and live now in Greece.
So, any kind of boasting is, in my opinion, well deserved. |
