.It's a bit more complex than falling in love ...... marriage - then children .... where to live? How will children be brought up - Different religions? Who's willing to change? Anyone or no one?

We all love falling in love - no matter the nationality - it's later when things start to unravel. I love mixed marriages (I'm in one myself .... so is my sister ... so is my cousin!) However - are you allowed to continue to be yourself - do you have to behave a certain way? My husband is Greek, I'm British .. thankfully he loves the British sense of humour and loves being in the company of Brits.
He has never tried to change me or calm me down, he allows me my 'British ways' we live in Greece so I respect his ways, the kids are Greek Orthodox, but they wouldn't have been had we lived in UK.

Although my husband has never tried to mould me into a 'Greek', other people have .... priests tried to make me become part of the Greek Orthodox religion, this was an absolute 'NO WAY' from me, no one should be able to shape you into something that you are not. But more often than not this happens in mixed marriages, with one nationality/ religion becoming the 'boss'. I have seen this way too many times in my life.

When we fall in love we don't think about there being conflicts on the above things in the future, which can be even worse if the families get involved.

Mixed marriages are never easy, and I feel that a Greek/Turkish marriage will have more problems than most due to the complete different religions, history and the inbred weariness of each others nationalities.

I personally know 2 Turkish girls married to Greeks - they not only have to deal with the men's families (one mother refuses to speak to her daughter-in-law ... although her son has been married to her for 18 yrs ... and she (my friend) went through breast cancer a few years ago - with no care from his side of the family in Greece, where they live) but they also have to deal with comments from all around them on a daily basis. My friend's son has to put up with a lot from kids at school as well!

When two people are in love, that's it! Who has the right to oppose?

ketilevedis
I have two boys 24and 25 years old and it doesn't matter to me the ethnicity or the race of their wives to be.Only thing I want is that my boys are being loved and cared of.Yia sou.

GREEK CIGAR
Why would there be a problem? I am Greek and I ve seen so many hot turkish persons.

Rationally there is absolutely no reason to oppose such marriage. Practically, if the people involved are religious, problems will be created in the marriage.

Love is love. Marriage and children is another issue. If my friends and relatives chose to marry someone from Turkey I wouldn't mind at all, I would welcome that person and he/she would have my friendship.
As for me, marrying a Turkish guy is no problem as long as he respects my country, its civilisation and history and vice versa. However, since religion is very important to me I would never want to change it. I will always be an Orthodox Christian and raise my children as Orthodox Christians, too. If he could live with that, no problem.
So, I think that a marriage of this kind would be possible between two people who are not religious because Orthodoxy and Islam are two very different religions that represent different values, ideas and eventually ways of life.

I'm a Greek girl, and i seem to always be falling for Turkish guys.. I don't have a problem with it myself, but I know that my dad would be gutted if he knew.

if both sides of the families are OK with it..why not but personally I would rather have my kids married with people from my own nation...but exceptions are ok...I guess
