Hope you understand that you may life in Russia only in 90 day periods, up to, but no more that 180 days out of a calendar year, if you are granted a visa. As a young man in the military, going to what used to be a "closed city" will be difficult for you.

Russia makes no accomodation for foreigners. Everything from street signs, advertising, newspapers, cafe menus, etc, will be in Russian. You need to be able to communicate to do even the simple things like asking for a bathroom, ordering a meal, shopping for groceries, etc.

before you go it would REALLY help you to learn russian , try rosetta stone. i learned french super quick before i went on a trip there and now i can speak it almost fluently. i dont think you will be able to join the army sense it requires many years of training to make it in. i have a russian ballet teacher who is incredibly strict , so before you go you should note that the discipline is MUCH more intense than here and if you really do move you need to be prepared for the LARGE change that is going to happen to your lifestyle.

good luck ( ur gonna need it )
p.s. i think u would be better of here but thats just me ! :)

Have you actually been there? There's a lot of pollution there, and they're a lot poorer there than we are in the US. You do definitely need to know Russian. Most people there work for the Russian navy or in fishing. They probably wouldn't take you in the Russian military if you don't speak Russian and even if you did it's not really something you want to do.

If you don't have family there, I recommend you stay away from Russia. Bad things happen to American Soldiers in the Land of the Putin.

And If you were in the KGB, would the US army let you in? Think logically

Do not listen to the people who dont give great advice. Please go to russia its so great there. But also depends on where you want to go. St. petersberg is great. Plus some of these probably haven't been to russia.

Dont listen their, i live in russia and its a good country...why would you wanna move to Владивосток? Take to Moscow or St. Peterburg:) Russian is a difficult language, but not extremally, youll quickly learn this!

Good luck дружище!
