No, I haven't.. But I've been to Slovakia, Nizkie Tatry this summer. It seemed to me that Slovakia is a very beautiful country with hospitable people. You can smile even to unknown person and he would smile in response. I liked this country a lot.

Happy New Year!

Yes it is great and what people saw 15 years ago and how it is today are worlds apart.

I had a Ryanair day out there a couple of years ago. I got a 24-hour bus & tram ticket for about 90p (local equivalent) from the machine at the airport. Buy a coffee or something in the airport cafe and you'll get enough change for the machine, it didn't take notes.
It's definitely ex-communist, there are some really unlovely-looking blocks of flats towards the edge of town. That's as far as the ex-communist bit goes though, they have discovered SHOPPING (my first IKEA, ahhh how cute). I can't comment on the drinks, cos I had to drive home again that night.
Happy New Year!

I was there just a little over a year ago, in October 2006. It always irritates me to high heaven every time some chucklehead brings up "Hostel" when I mention I've been to Bratislava... either they have a grossly over-inflated sense of how "funny" they think they are, or they're just really, really, really stupid.

Bratislava was a joy to visit. It doesn't suffer the kinds of crowds Vienna, Prague, or Bratislava endure, and most of the people walking by you at the Bratislava Castle or in the center of town are Slovaks, not tourists. I stayed in a hostel called the Backpacker's, just across the street from the Presidential Palace... it was wonderful. I would absolutely love to go to Bratislava again. I got to drive around to some other places while I was there--Trencin, up in northern Slovakia, and down south to Budapest--and when I finally left I only felt like I'd missed far more interesting things than I saw during the time I was there.

If you want to know more specifically, or want to see some pictures, just let me know.

I had a cheap flight out of there last year... Unfortunatly didn't see much when I was there.

Had a bad experience with the trams late at night, but I won't base my whole judgement of the city on that. I've met plenty of nice people from Slovakia since.

I've heard there are lots of nice castles and stuff...

I went there in 2005 (when we beat them in the Davis Cup finals:). The people are EXTREMELY friendly, really, and very civilized. The city itself is charming, full of history, and I liked those iron statues of people placed all around the city centre. It`s a truly beautiful town with very nice people. What else could you want?
Have a wonderful time in Slovakia!

Yes, but about 15 years ago. It was absolutely horrible. We toured a foundry. Saw some Stalinist housing estates. Got stopped at the airport on leaving. They'd given me the wrong entry visa. Saw the first match of Euro1992 in the airport lounge. Grim. Grim. Grim.
