Has anyone been to Russia?

If so, what did you think of it, what year(s) did you go, and where in the country did you go.

Yes, I was there many times .... I visited Saint Petersburg and Moscow only .... Moscow is getting better and better .... I would say London and Moscow are the most bombastic cities in Europe right now. Moscow is expansive but you can get everything you want. There are some extra-class restaurants, night clubs, malls. But too crowded and traffic is just terrible. Young tourists (up to 30-35) with money will definitely love this place !!!!!

I traveled on business to Moscow and point beyond in 2002. Moscow is a very big and busy city. The architecture was amazing; a mixture of classical churches for tsarist era and blockish soviet government buildings.

Everything is for sale in Russia. If you are young with money the world is yours, but for the poor and old in Russia life is very hard. The people are generally friendly. Back then, they still like Americans, or at least their money.

TINKERTOY ..... the 1 & only
Just went to St Petersburg on a cruise. We were there for two days and took a tour of the city and also went to a Russian Folklife show. The city is very old and looks it. Lots of monuments and parks. Not very inviting either. We did not eat or drink anywhere but I read a review that said don't drink the water. Its a place that I was glad to have seen, but no need to go back for anything else.

I went to St. Petersburg for one weekend in the year 1998 with my Russian language class. It was interesting to see how things are over there. Went to see one church, went to shopping on our own. Our teacher warned us not to give any money to the poor people begging on the street. Coz if u gave any money to them, u can't get rid of them.

The traffic in the town was horrible, no rules what so ever, people drove the way they wanted, so had to be careful if u were gonna get on the other side of the drive way. Not to mention I got the impression the city was dirty so to speak. I'm glad in my country we have traffic lights, the rules how to drive safely etc. Don't think I will ever go back to Russia...

I visited St. Petersburg for one day as part of a cruise in January 1996. It was both beautiful, with the Hermitage and due to a massive regeneration campaign, and also depressing because of it being mostly in decay and the elderly people there who were so desperate for money/something to eat.
