There are plenty of scholars, researchers and scientists in USA and other countries (Europe).
From time to time there is something to hear, but as you will probably know, Greece isn't the most privileged place in the world right now.

If you imply that we aren't good enough as our ancestors, well it's a correct conclusion to make.
BUT. I am very satisfied that eventually Greece is a very decent place to live and we didn't have the historical decline of Phoenicians, Arabs for example.
I'm happy and proud, because those ancestors made choices that affect modern Greeks' lives in a positive way.

This is what we are. We are proud of them. We respect the important cultural heritage they gave us (and all the world).

John H. Argyris (Ioannis Hatziargyris), inventor of the Finite Element Analysis, which Revolutionized Engineering Sciences.

This system was invented by Konstantinos Spentzas, Professor and Chairman of the Laboratory of Dynamics and Structures of the National Technical University of Athens and by the inventors Theodoros and Vasilios Tsiringakis.

Constantin Carathéodory (or Constantine Karatheodori) (Greek: Κωνσταντίνος Καραθεοδωρή) (September 13, 1873 – February 2, 1950) was a Greek mathematician. He made significant contributions to the theory of functions of a real variable, the calculus of variations, and measure theory. His work also includes important results in conformal representations and in the theory of boundary correspondence. In 1909, Carathéodory pioneered the Axiomatic Formulation of Thermodynamics along a purely geometrical approach.

Legacy

The Greek authorities intend to create a museum honoring Karatheodoris in Komotini, a major town of the northeastern Greek region where his family came from.

On December 19, 2005, Israeli officials along with Israel's ambassador to Athens, Ram Aviram, presented the Greek foreign ministry with copies of 10 letters between Albert Einstein and Constantin Carathéodory [Karatheodoris] that suggest that the work of Carathéodory helped shape some of Albert Einstein's theories.

Things are not so simple. Yes, they have, and you got many answers above from people who know more than I do in this area. But you must have a perception of historical conditions. Did anyone invent anything until the Renaissance and the Industrial Revolution? No, not in the Middle Ages. So Greece wouldn't either. However, when the Renaisance started for the rest of the world, based on the ancient Greek civilisation, which is what helped sciences and arts advance in Europe, Greece was conquered by the Ottoman Empire, that did not take part in this Renaissance or the industrial revolution. It is impossible for a people with no independence to start making progress in technology, because there is no financial support for this. After the Independence, gradually Greece advanced together with other European countries, but of course the major inventions had already been done. So basically it is in the 20th century that the new science had field for progress, and in this field Greek scientists had indeed a great contribution.

Evgenios Michael Antoniadis was an early 20th century astronomer who mapped the lunar landscape and Mars. Two craters (one on each of them) have his name.

Stamatis Krimitzis was the designer of the first artificial comet and the designer of space vehicles for the NASA explorations of eight planets or moons of our solar system. He is considered the top authority in his field.
