Belgium is one of the most underrated countries in Europe. It is a wonderful place to visit. Compared to most of the continent, it is inexpensive to stay and eat there. And the people are SO very friendly too.
Mons was my favorite small city. The people there were so nice and the "DouDou" festival (complete with dragon and knight trying to slay him) was great fun!
Go, you will NOT be dissapointed!

Belgium is usually underrated. people go to Europe andjust go through Belgium, however, if you go to Europe, tryto stop there for a few days. Itis really worth it! There are lots of places to visit: not just bigcities like Brussels and Brugge but also small towns. tryto go to Durbuy, the smallest city of Europe, it is beautifull. But there are also nice activities like a kayak ride on rivers, bike riding at the coast, etc. An, of course, lots of food tasting! The food is as good and sometimes better than French food and the dishes are bigger! Belgians are really nice people, they are friendly, willing to help you and most of them speak English!
Believe me, go to Belgium, you won't regret it!

My husband has been to Belgium and he liked it a lot. He has been to Brussels and Brugge which are about 50 minutes apart by train.
In Brussels, the Grand Palace is amazing and there are lots of beautiful churches with mediaval architecture. The largest organ in Europe is also in one of those churches. Brugge is a a compartively small city than Belgium but it is beautiful and is full of canals. You can take a canal ride. and of course you have to try the chocolates.

I went to the Christmas markets in Brussels and Mons last Christmas and it was beautiful. Everyone was very friendly and down to earth, they spoke amazing English but were very patient with my poor French. It was all extremely tasteful, it makes Christmas in the UK look like a tacky mess. Oh and the food was gorgeous, but I can't understand why a country with quite a small coastline is so obsessed with seafood!!

We just returned from spending two weeks driving around in Belgium. We stayed at a lovely Chateau near Ciney in Southeastern Belgium. It was self-catering.
We visited places all over the country..Brugges-lovely, friendly...the Ardennes area beautiful...Bastogne..
Dinant, Bouillon, Dismuide, Ypre, Veurne, Mons. We visited everything from battlegrounds, military cemetaries and museums to Yambon(ham) museums, potteries, glass blowing factories, beer museums, caves, It was our second time to visit Belgium. We speak limited French, our niece and son both spoke some French, we got along well.We did a lot of shopping at supermarkets as we usually fix most of our own meals when we visit Europe. It helps keep costs down for our family of seven. We do occasionally eat out, too. The food was quite good. It was very easy to drive in Belgium. The road signs are easy to read. We think the country is beautiful. We also find that most people are friendly if you are.
Belgium has a large variey of things to do and places to visit. Check out the Belgium tourism site. If you like military history at all..Belgium has a lot of sites relating to the World Wars as well as places like Waterloo.
We did enjoy everything from the west coast of Belgium on the North Sea to the forests of the Ardennes,
It is a country worth visiting.

I went to Brussels about 5 years ago and had a great time. My favourite bit was the Atomium- it's great and you get a fantastic view of the city.

Bland, uninspired, but great comics, beer, moules frittes if you're into that kind of thing. Visit, when in Europe, but don't go there for it's own sake.

Several times. I fell in love with Antwerp: the museums, the cafes, the shops...
Gent is great (don't miss the 'Oude Steen' and the Sint-Baafs cathedral). Bruges is nice, but a few too many tourists there...
I hadn't have a very good experience when I visited Brussels the first time, but the second visit was absolutely fantastic.
The Belgians appreciate it very much if you try and talk a few words in French to them. I found they weren't all that bad! :-)

been there quite a few times. i thought antwerpen was a bit dull, only a small part of that city was nice,... or so i think. but i do really like brussels, i can really recommend going there!!! and gent is supposed to be a great city as well, but i've never been there!
i've been in the "Ardennen", they're really beautiful and there's so much cool stuf to do: going inside caves, mountainbiking, abseiling, rockclimbing, etc.
