Plus, her parents should have been watching her. |

Hi! No I didn't´t Portugal is a lovely place.
Clevergirl:
I guess you are not so clever: I will answer your question “How many kids have gone missing from there” (I believe you meant in Praia da Luz or the entire Algarve) – The answer in both cases is NONE, ZERO!!!!
In Portugal in 2007 there were 31 cases of missing children, 24 were found alive and well, that leave us with 7 unsolved cases.
How many missing children are in the UK?
How many cases were solved in the UK?
How many parents u know (let´s say around the world) leave their young children alone in a apartment while going to dinner?
How many parents u know leave (two nights) their kids to go to a near town (Praia da Rocha about 30 minutes by car) at night?
How many parents you know with such young children don´t get a baby sitter (the local provides this service) while they went out?
How many parents do u know give their kids sleeping pills?
Isn't´t the main duty of a parent to protect his children?
Sparky:
I respect your opinion about the Portuguese police but they did found 24 out of 31 missing children last year and yes they are incompetent cause leaving young children alone at home is a crime in Portugal and they didn't´t do nothing against these parents.
God save us from the mascarade of lies! |

No,not at all.
It is an ideal holiday destination.
Disaster can happen wherever you are.
Whom ever was responsible is a very evil being. |

NO!!!!! has it made you change your mind? have you been?
it's my favourite country in Europe, the people are lovely, friendly and very easy to get on with.. they are the UK's oldest allies...
the food is just great, the weather is fantastic.. the culture is a lovely one.. it is a SAFE place to live and visit.... I would have absolutely no problem going there on holiday with my 3year old daughter, or indeed if I was lucky enough to be able to live (again!!) I would be packed in 30 minutes.....
I would rather walk the streets of Portugal at midnight than the streets of the UK at midday.....
EDIT well said Caroline.. and to the person who wants to know how many kids go missing in Portugal.. ? I don't know which country you are from, but how in YOUR country go missing... and then how many are found.. dead or alive??? as for a 'haven for paedophiles' ...again.. how many anywhere??? do you really hink being on a 'list' makes a flipping difference????? they re-home them next to bleeding schools in the UK.. and i am sure if Portugal is a 'haven' for them most of them are from the bloody UK ... ;-) ... durrrr
Edit.. thankyou seven.. xxx |

Not at all. I feel heartily sorry for the disruption the McCann trouble has brought to their Country. They have suffered greatly in more ways than one and have shown dignity through it all...
Edit: Well said izo! |

not at all
it is a lovely place for a family holiday
it is disgusting how the reputation of this country has been tarnished to cover up the actions of irresponsible parents
i have stayed in the same resort as the mccanns when my boys were young and we had a great family holiday
i took my youngest son there for a half term break last year and had a lovely time
it is the fault of the parents that this disaster befell them - we only have their claims that their daughter was taken by anyone...
it is not the fault of anyone else if they put their wants and needs ahead of those of their children
i will probably go back to portugal in the next year or so and fully expect to enjoy my holiday
these people have been given too many opportunities ro smear the name of this resort and have tried to damage the reputation of portugal ....all to cover up for their own 'mistakes' |

I, as a Portuguese, changed my opinion on the British people and their respect for the law. I also decided never in my life to hire a British baby-sitter... |

No - the Portuguese are our oldest allies and I haven't met any Portuguese people I've not liked.
You can't judge a whole Country by the nincompoops in charge of law & order, or its Politicians. Take ours, for example! |

What happened wasn't the Portuguese people's fault. It was her parents'. |

I still don't get why two such well-educated people left a 4 year old and twin two year olds alone and UNATTENDED for any length of time anywhere! They should have been imprisoned for child endangerment from the beginning!
I feel for these people, but I can NOT understand how PHYSICIANS can be so incredibly irresponsible! And that they were so shocked when it went wrong is just dispicable.
And the Portuguese police have been massively incompetent in the whole issue.
Other than the police, though, I have not changed my opinion about Portugal. Still think it's a lovely place. Not sure I would want to bring a child there, though. And I wouldn't leave my child unattended in a foreign country, even at the age of ten! |

No disrespect to the Portuguese people but with such a incompetent police force I wouldn't bother. The world is a big place.
Things do happen in other places also but at the end of the day should something happen you would rather have a competent police force to deal with the problem quickly, professionally and efficiently.
Children disappearing here seems to be the norm though. |

Yes actually. I mean, I'd never actually thought about it that much, but now after all the media I see it as a haunting spot for paedophiles. And it seems like the country knows this, but covers up for them. How many kids have gone missing from there? That's what I want to know. |
