Hi, yes I have been lucky enough to have been to both countries having served in the UK merchany navy for a number of years. It would be unfair to compare the countries as each has their individual qualities, the Finns made us feel welcome but the port we visited would not give a true representation of life in Finland. Having visited the Danish capital of Copenhagen however I must say the Danes are a liberated and friendly nation, their capital is really impressive. Sorry I can't be of any more help, I hope you get replys that will give you a more detailed insight. |

I've been to both. It's really like comparing apples to oranges. The Danes are friendly and helpful, and most of them speak excellent English, even outside the cities. The Finns are a bit more reserved, and fewer country folk speak English. I think Finland is interesting because of the Russian influence, and the countryside is prettier. Also, there's Lappland in Finland (above the arctic circle), where you can see the northern lights (aurora borealis) in the winter, and the midnight sun in the summer. |

In my opinion, Finland. First of all Santa Claus lives in northern Finland. It is the land of midnight sun during mid-summer festival. It has great health care and education systems too. Helsinki is a great city to visit year round and can keep you busy and entertained. It is easy for tourists also, because everybody speak english well. Finnish quietness is sometimes a problem, but at least you know when a Finn talks to you, they mean what they say. :) |

I went to Finland last year. it was an interesting trip, but I have to say that the scenery consists of little more than pine forests and lakes. It is also pretty flat. The population density is very low, so plenty of space. Helsinki was nice and many towns and villages have interesting old wooden buildings. I went up beyond the Arctic Circle - very bleak, but again, interesting. I found that English was widely spoken and understood - which is just as well since Finnish is pretty incomprehensible!
My only visit to Denmark was much briefer. The country is very flat and much less forested. Population density is much higher. Copenhagen seemed interesting. Both equally worth a visit I'd say, but a trip to Finland, if you have the chance, would be more 'unusual'. |

I have been to both.Finland is magical at this time of year (I went over Christmas and New Year last year. I went skiing at Yllas where it caters for novices like me or the more experienced skier. Not too commercialised so I liked it all the more.Helsinki was good too,a very clean city.Public transport very efficient unlike the UK and easy to obtain helpful information.
Then people are very welcoming and most under the age of 40 have English as their second language. It's a bit on the expensive side but what the hell,it was a holiday and so is the UK.I'd love to go again and maybe see Santa.
I went to Denmark a couple of years ago at New Year.getting around is a dream on public transport as it is so well organised AND on time with no exceptions.
It was also a very clean city, plenty to do and see and I did not feel threatened whatsoever.Pubs and restaurants seemed to close on the early side (10pm) a bit rough when you only get there at midnight!Otherwise a thoroughly enjoyable trip. |

Have been to Herning and Copenhagen in Denmark and Helsinki in Finland. I enjoyed Helsinki more, especially as from there you can also go to Estonia by boat. |
