Yes. It is an amazing city with so much to do and see. I liked it a lot more than Moscow. It has a completely different feel and was a lot more relaxing. I loved it there and I highly recommend visiting it.

I lived there for about 6 months a while back. If you ever travel there you will find that the major tourist places are nice and clean, however outside of the tourist places it's your typical Russian city. St. Pete is expensive, so be prepared to spend more on hotels, food, utilities.

Yes, it is a great city and there is so much to do. I would suggest staying close to Nevesky Prospect as it will be easier to get around for you.

You will find that this city is very charming and somewhat European, lots of cafe's and wonderful sites to see. Be sure to go the Hermitage and take a day to go to Peterhoff as it is worth your time.

Do yourself a favor and learn just a little Russian as it will help you communicate. My suggestions would to learn the numbers from 1 to 10 and common phrases.

I am sure you will have a great time, good luck!

Why so cynical?
Yes , I have... about 6 years ago.. .

It's much nicer than Moscow. The museums and palaces are wonderful. It's a really beautiful city ... and the people are much nicer than the Moscow people... but I guess I'm being a bit stereotypical now.. ;)

You should totally go , it's really beautiful there :)

It was better than Moscow but Moscow is catching up. But overall, Saint-Petersburg is a great, but expensive, city. I visit some of my relatives who live their occasionally. I liked the area. 2nd best city in Russia, behind Moscow.
