Have you ever heard of a vegetarian growing up in a Greek family?

I am a vegetarian and I became one almost as from my childhood. I can assure anybody that I never lucked strength, health and vitality, having been an athlete (carate), a dancer and an (amateur) choreographer during the last years.
For proteins I have only milk and cheese.
A greek family must respect the choice of its member to be a vegetarian, and try to limit the enormous quantity of meet that Greeks consume during the last 30 years...

Certainly...First dont forget that greek food is based on vegetables. Then there is a big number of vegetarians in Greece...
It depends on the family habits always...and on the preference of the other

I had a friend that was vegetarian..

a fanatic one :)

thus I must inform you that regarding ecology and environmental issues we are as sensitive as the rest Europeans
In Greece you can find any kind of people and life-style..

Dont judge the whole, just because of the example of the few-

Sure, I have a few vegetarian Greek friends. I am almost vegetarian myself (I mean, I am vegetarian in ideology and I rarely eat meat, but I do eat it because I have anaemia which went much worse when I had stopped eating meat).

I 'm Greek and almost vegetarian. Occasionally I eat fish, but no meat or dairy. I slowly turned my family around, and now the eat mostly vegetables and very very little meat. Like once every few months. Actually the greek cuisine has so many vegetarian, even vegan dishes, that makes it easy to become vegetarian. My immediate family accepted my choice instantly. But aunts and uncles didn't. Eventually though, they gave up, and stopped bothering me.

One of my best friends became a vegetarian when he started working at his father's butcher shop. He saw chicken running without a head...and that was enough for him. Now he's one of the Greenpeace leaders in energy saving.

I'm thinking to become a vegetarian myself very soon.

have you ever seen my big fat greek wedding? "I'm a vegetarian." "Okay, we make lamb!" haha no I haven't heard of it. sorry. and good luck to you.

?
Yes, but it's not the norm. More and more people are becoming vegetarians as health problems are evident due to the lack of healthy meals. I am not a vegetarian as I eat meat once in a while but my diet consists mainly of vegetables-----and fish. Fish is very popular in Greece and so are vegetables and fruit in case you didn't know.

You're kidding! A Greek is a vegetarian if vegetables are served with the meat.
