Have you ever heard of this guy? |
His name is Joe Kittinger. He was the first man in space and freefell at the speed of sound from outer space:

I would never do that. Would you? I also find it suprising that he was the first man in space. I always thought it was Neil Armstrong. Additional Details Well apparently he made it and survived. I think because it's so cold up in the atmosphere (about 100 degrees below zero) it made it hard for him to burn up like an asteroid. Plus, he had multiple parachutes which would be activated after certain intervals to decrease his speed. Here's an interview if you want to check it out:

The Russians won the space race.
Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space. It was on the Vostok I think and they also sent the first dog into space in the Sputnik 2.
And no, I haven't heard of that guy and definitely NO for that freefall. ^_^
Carmelo is right, the dog came first, then the humans were next. ^_^ |

I don't know about Kittinger, but you CAN free fall from space. Satellites donot fall because centrifugal force balances gravity. If you are not turning around the earth with enough speed to balance gravity, free falling is possible. But I should think the speed of sound would be impossible, because due to frictional force (with air), speed eventually stabilizes, therefore whatever height you are falling from, your speed doesn't increase forever and balances at one point.
When the object is turning around the earth, three forces are effective: the "vertical" (actually circular) momentum (mass x speed), the gravity and the centrifugal force. And the balancing point depends on mass (if not negligible like a human body) and speed. The satellites can be there just because they are turning around the earth. No turning, no balance and the satellite falls. |

Goodmorning Candy,
(İn Türkiye ,now, the sun rise)
I agree with this comment:
"he wasnt in space. he jumped from in earths atmosphere and jumped only about 10 times as high as a normal jumper and about 2.5 times as high as a jet airliner flies."
and the space isn't equal the earths atmosphere.
The title of this video is wrong .
I agree with Joannah too.
The first human in the space was Yuri Gagarin.

no babe the first thing in space was laika then Gagarin then Shepard then ford and then others !! now it was chuck yeager that flew at the edge in 1955 of space and free fall down and parachuted in the desert but like i say above !! |

It's impossible. He must burn . Also his camera must burn like an asteroid.
Gagarin went to space at first time. Neil is went to the moon.
And there are some speculations about going to the moon. But they did it.
Not. A scientific knowledge needs literature. Not movies. |

Agree with Joannah. The first man was Gagarin. Armstrong was the first to walk on the moon.
You cannot free fall to earth from space. Why not the satellites fall? Also, if he hasn't been in the atmosphere already, he would have grilled entering.
But,yeah i would totally love to do that. Man,what an adrenalin rush to your brains.
# Blunt, i imagine that force's vectors are horizontal but the gravitational force is vertical. How do you equalize the vertical force vectors to make satellites stay in the orbit?
#Edit 2 : So it's not the gravitational force, it is the momentum? (trying to understand) |

That's impossible! no humanbeing or an animal can free fall from space into the earth! Because of the frioction-force,you will burn like an asteroid.it is impossible for a human to reach to the speed of sound without any wehicle! BTW i have never heard of this guy you are talking about. But what i know is a dog that is the first living being in space. |

Icarus (Ἴκαρος) and Daedalus (Δαίδαλος) who inspired everybody from Gagarin, Shepard, Yeager, Aldrin, the Wright Brothers to Sabiha Gökçen (since this is the Turkey Section)
If mankind didn't let his imagination soar, we would still be staring at the sky wondering at what could be. |

There are only two forces when an object orbit around the earth. There are the horizontal ( tangential ) force and gravity force. Beside, all the objects, whether orbit around the earth or not, the always falls onto the earth. However, because of the shape of the earth, the falling of the objects, orbit around the earth, lasts forever. At least we can accept this if we ignore the friction of the atmosphere. That's why satellites fall but moon.
On the other hand, the centrifugal force is an imaginary force that is used to explain the situation to students.
By the way, the balancing point of an object does not depend on its speed. |

I don't know much physics, never got more than 7/10 at school.
The first man made 'thing' to go up in space was the USSR Sputnik (was it in 1956 or 57?). The first man to go in space was Yuri Gagarin, the Soviet cosmonaut. He made one full orbit around Earth and came down. The Americans followed the Soviets in the space race and went to the moon first (no other country has done that yet). Neil Armstrong was the first man to set foot on the Moon (July 20, 1969).
Yuri Gagarin later died in an aeroplane crash. What a tragedy! |
