NAMIK KEMAL

Have you seen the TV commercial for hazelnut cream?

well there are actually 3 versions of them depicting foreigners enjoying hazelnut and byproducts.
One is with two Chinese (or Japanese?) men in a restaurant
Another one is with two Arab men in a cafe in Dubai...

and the last one depicting two Greek men in Athens -sitting together in a balcony with a view of Athens in the background.

Here's my question:
A friend of mine suggests that those two men are gays,
because -my friend reasons, those two are living in the same appartment and one of them passionately serves "food" to the other one's mouth directly.
(You can't miss the implication, my friend says)

Do you think the screen-writers depicted the greek man as gay on that commercial? I really want to know your opinion..

P.S. to Çetin: I read your requests for a Namik Kemal joke. Thanx for your compliment. I'm making a list of them to tell in here y/a.

it's normal for greek men to be gay. they have some sort of gay pride. there's nothing new or interesting with it.

What is striking in that commercial is that greeks are also introduced as "thieves" of cultural features, especially on food issues. A reference is made to the assumption that they want to "appropriate" the hazelnut products -like Turkish coffee or Turkish delight. I guess they all have low morals and THAT commercial is simply making reference to such "already-known" greek features

Well, sometimes the commercials may voluntarily use ambiguous messages in order to sound really different and touch the audience's spirit...
But I think, in this particular case,I think that this was just a (little bit) funny and cheap joke.
If the real purpose of the screenwriters was to give a "gay image "to the Greek men, that would be simply a kind of racism ( as if it was an insult ), and then I suppose a scandal would occur.
On YouTube, some haters from the other side of the Aegean love to post racist videos depicting the Turks as gays, but I hope our people won't give similar response (that's unfair and childish).
By the way, all neighbour countries tend to do sometimes some stupid jokes...For example, the English and the French are one thousand times more "gossipping" each other ( or the French and the Belgian, etc...)

Edit : Sometimes the manners of someone, his body language, the way he's talking, etc, may look like "gay" or "straight", but that's just a generalization and a stereotype.
Even myself, I already have been confused as a gay, even though I don't have any "gay" manners or "gay" attitude, and sometimes some gays just look like so straights than it's impossible to notice their sexual preference.
One of the most stupid clichés about gays is also the "having always good taste for clothes", the " artistic feeling", or the "looking attractive", as if a straight man couldn't be "an handsome artist who knows how to wear clothes with style" .

Oh, I forgot to say also that this commercial is showing two Mediterranean men, and everybody knows that most of the Mediterranean men are just much warmer and cooler than a Scandinavian or a French, so that's not surprising to see Greeks,Turks, Spaniards or Morrocans act this way....

Hülya
Almost every commercials use humour, that's not worth taking it that seriously.

Ipek K
They may be or they may not be.. So what??

BTW, "your friend!!!" has a weird mind - it is just a cheap budget commercial.. That's all.

So, your logic says, any two guys hanging around together are gays. Turkish kahvehanes are full of them, then.

Namık Kemal jokes have some trace of intelligence in them. This question doesn't.

Edit: I have to be really stupid not to understand what is implied. Are you saying that we should take "questions" at face value and not read between the lines? Why are we getting so angry at certain Armenian and Greek users "questions" then? They are quite innocent for the casual answerer?

The guys in the video are sitting in the balcony. "living in the same apartment"? How do you know? And serving food "passionately"? Dude, get a grip on your intelligence. This is sub par.

habisce
I really do not think so, as many straight men do the same thing, not as much as gays do though. I saw straight men ( and while saying straight men, I meant men do not even know the meaning of homosexuality ) served " çiğ köfte " ( or similar foods ) to each others' mouths. Also, this is similar to think oil wrestlers are gay.

nope, I don't think they are gay or not gay in the commercial.
I watched all of them and all the commercials have only men in them, so maybe they want to target men. Perhaps men eat more findik than women.

I didn't like that the japonlu men spoke like mice, and the karadiniz one was the best one.
