Conor

Hello I'm going on my honeymoon to Turkey.?

I'm going on my honeymoon with my beatutiful wife in June and was looking for some ideas of a nice, affordable, quiet and laid back location. I dont want resorts and cramming buildings and people together as thats no fun. I was thinking of the island of Bozcaada or Tenedos (it has two names...) if anyone has any suggestions or reccomendations it would be great!

I would strongly suggest a blue cruise.

No other vacation can be as laid back as being on a boat, visiting the wonderful bays of Aegean and swimming in crystal clear waters :)

I agree with Muallim, Alanya is beautiful and there is a lot to see and do. The castle is magnificent, there are lots of good restaurants and the Cleopatra Beach is very clean. I have a house at Oba just outside Alanya and we spend a lot of time at Dim Cay where there are restaurants with tables floating in the river. Very relaxing and definately worth a visit.

We have been to Turkey loads and always have a great time. Side is the quietest place that we have found, people were still really nice but not lively enough for us so should be just what your looking for.

Bozcaada is the best place you could ever go to for a romantic (but quite) honeymoon.

The island is covered with wine yards, pine trees and beautiful beaches. the sea has the clearest waters in mediterranean but it can get really cold - even in august. there is a constant cooling northern wind which adds a very magical feel to the island. sunsets as well as star watching nights there are unforgettable!

If you do there, DON'T stick only with Ayazma. try Sulubahce and Habbele beaches for sure. Go to the cape west (bati burnu) for sunset. the view is just great! especially in the evenings, at dusk, walk a lot through the fields. you guys will feel the magic right away.

First of all - information: the best website is www.bozcaada.info . I know it looks crappy. But the owner of the site is one cool guy, Melih, who moved to the island some 20 years ago and living their with his wife and son. Their information is reliable, so is their brownie at Ada Cafe.

----------places to stay

http://www.kaikias.com/

As you see, the rooms are furnished with a good taste. rooms are very comfortable.

There might be other options, I'm not very much updated. But I know that these guys are good. I stay there from time to time too.

Second suggestion would be the Rengigul pansiyon. the owner, Ozcan, is an artist (mainly painter). she also moved to the island about 20 years ago. her place is full of interesting artifacts and paintings. the rooms are furnished with great taste. the place has a wonderful garden. and it has the best REPEAT BEST breakfast on the island .the only downside, the bathroom is shared among 4 rooms at the floor. -which is why this option is not my first suggestion.

everywhere is always kept super clean though. and much cheaper than kaikias.

http://www.rengigul.net/

or if you guys into farm like places;

http://www.akvaryumbozcaada.com/
http://www.araltatilciftligi.com/
http://www.ataolciftligi.com/

Aral and Ataol are both families which are big wine yard owners. Ataol has its own wine brand - a bit crappy. Members of Aral family also produce wine; where they use Bozcaada grapes but the production is somewhere else. (due to a famous family fight - island has many gossips, you know... :) )

Akvaryum is located at my favorite spot on the island. until recently they didn't have electricity, not even a generator, which was the reason I liked it. This might have changed. In Bozcaada, the darker your surroundings are, the better it gets. when you guys are there, look at the skies, you'll know what I mean. The place is owned by a great couple, Deniz and his wife. He is a diver and used to run a diving school there. his name literally means "ocean"; the reason is obvious.

cafes:

Ada Cafe (run by the bozcaada.info people)
Lisa's (run by Lisa who moved to the island from phillipines)
Salkim (great breakfast)
Polente cafe (best coffee on the island)
and another one which is very close to Salkim, on the same side of the same street. I don't remember the name.

restaurants:

definitely Vahit's Place (Vahit'in Yeri) in Ayazma, south of the island. Try fried kalamari (kalamar), octopus salad (ahtapot salatasi) and cig borek (pronounced like tchee booreck) there and of course with cold efes. (local beer)

for fish,

boruzan restaurant and sehir restaurant. try filled calamari (kalamar dolmasi).

my recommendation for you is to go to Ada cafe, find Melih and ask him about the best current eating options in town. he will have the most updated information. you'll see that he will be very eager to help.

for partying; of course the "salhane", an island classic.

-------wine tasting

The best times to do that end of August when there is a festival for grape harvest. But at other times, all of the wineries are in the city - except for one- you can always go and do some tasting in their shops. also there are tours generally organized for winery visiting and wine tasting. I don't know about the details though.
