Malta is going to the Euro in January of next year, so a lot of places will let you pay in Euros and everything is marked in Euros and Maltese Lira - personally I would get your Maltese Lira at the PO in the UK as you wont be charged for them! If you have Lira, you will be able to pay for anything anywhere here.

All prices are in Euro and LM. Cashpoint machines all over the place - Bank of Valetta was the easiest to use. HSBC cashpoints always seemed to have queues outside - Malta converts to Euro on Jan 1st 2008 so make sure you use all your LM up

Buy Malta's own currency. At the moment, the Euro -Lm (Maltese Lira) is at a fixed rate at any bank, so you won't gain financially by converting money into Euros or Lm. However:
a) People sometimes rip you off if you use Euros
b) It's fun, using a foreign currency! :)

Totally buy them before, they know people will pay anything once you're there cause you HAVE to buy them by that time.

Maltese Lira,

Today, 1.00 GBP = 0.636260 MTL (from http://www.xe.com)

Hope that helps, and any travel angent or post office can get them for you.

Lara, whenever possible, use your credit cards. You will get the best exchange rate this way.

Better change the Sterling to the Maltese Lira, as Euros are not officially used in Malta.
