Holiday in Turkey still in light of bombings?

I'm due to go to Turkey on holiday in 2 weeks time, but am fearful to do so after the recent bombings. Changing my holiday would cost a lot of mney. Should I ignore the expense and change my plans?

I live in Turkey and I do not think I will die in a couple of days.. Besides I am not planning to leave this country ever. Do you think the possibility of dieing from a bomb attack is more for you than for me ? Where on earth is safety guaranteed 100% nowadays ?

And reply to the Mr "freedom for Kurdistan".
You are growing like rabbits in Turkish land; some of you even have 10-15 kids and now you are calling a part of our country Kurdistan ? You are just a puppet of the imperialists.
If you really love Kurdish people, why are you bombing tourism targets when so many Kurdish people is also in the business ? Why are you suggesting the people to go to Greek Islands ? Are there Kurds living in Greek Islands also, you idiot ?

We found ourselves in the same situation (my husband and three children) and decided to change our holiday from fethiye to benalmadena as our safety is more important than money.

Hi Little skirt,
I have been living in Turkey for 6 months now, don't let these few idiots spoil your holiday you have little to fear. Just be sensible where & when you go.If you go out at night go to bars by taxi or drink close to your accommodation. It tends to be crowded dolmus & very busy areas like Mcdonalds in the evening that are being targeted

jon_jo_plant
Dont be scared, -my sister came back from a holiday in Turkey 2 days before the bombings- it's highly unlikey that anything else will happen. It was Kurds who are fighting for independance from the Turkish state not terrorists targeting foreigners.

clairehair21
Look on the british or american embassy website for guidance. The british government warned there will be further attacks, and urged people to not go unless it was necessary, but obviously, it is up to you.

Be careful is my advice rather lose money than your Life, check with your government.!!!

Is it Marmaris that you are going to??? My mum lives there and she called me yesterday to let me know everything is OK. They were mostly little bombs that did no damage. There was the big one on the bus, but the other 2 were small things that did no more than make a noise. If you need any more help making your decision, contact me, and i can always ask my mum how things are going over there. she is a holiday rep so will know a lot.

The bombings are unfortunate, but the US press really makes it seem a lot worse than it is. You're still safer in most cities in Turkey than in any major city in the US. The bombings are not aimed at tourists.

I wouldn't hesitate to go to Turkey, however, if you have doubts, contact your travel insurance company and ask what your options would be if you cancelled. You might also check with the tour operator to see what they are willilng to do in light of the bombings. They may be willing to change your destination but will probably not refund your money.

My vote is go and have a great time.

AllsTar
id definitely go and have a blast, dont think it would happen again in that area, plus i have one thing to say, if u r destined to such a thing like that doesnt matter where u r, it would even happen when u r @home something might occur and make u totally upside down, so be ready for fun. trust me nothing will happen....

PANCHO
Dont worry Turkey is stil safer than some streets in the US. This is not to be offensive. I am Italian have traveled to both places many times and love both of them. But I would not change my plans.
And that Spartan person constantly makes provocative remarks and is full of hatred for Turkey. I would not take him seriously.

No be brave like me I'm going in 19 days and cant wait!

I was thinking about backing out but it would mean me losing the money as i know nothing like this is covered in my insurance!!!

So I'm going to brave it out! where abouts are you going? I'm going to Altinkum and so far they haven't touched there so fingers crossed!!
But if anymore go off i think everyone will be advised to stay home!

I'm just listening out for anything on the news now!!

Go on your holiday - don't give in to the pathetic bombing scum!

gaulde
If Turkey is still classed as high risk, Holiday Companies will let you change it free of charge to another destination. We had guests go out this week and we asked if they wanted to change their destination or offered them a full refund but most of them got on the flight and went. If while you were out there and the need arose to Evacuate then chances are you will receive the money back. Go, Have a great time and let your holiday company worry about it!!

I would be afraid too, but don't spoil your holiday. After all, what will be, will be. Be careful and enjoy your trip at the same time.

garry_sangster
i live in turkey like the other to people who answered tour question of course its natural to be but concerned but you will be alright if it was so bad tour companies would not come here

Just go.

That was the eight bombing in the turkish coasts this year. It will happen again, try to change country without spending too much money. If you can't avoid paying the air ticket, take a small ship from turkey and go to a greek island. I wish you good luck.
