I prefer "The Netherands" for the country (since it is the one and only name for the country in English) and "Holland" for the province I live in.
"Dutchieland"?? Never in my life. Just...no. |

My first choice is not given, that is the official name of the country in its own language:
Nederland.
When I talk with people who know English, (specially those who only know English) I will go with the international tradition and call my country the Netherlands. (See the word the, part of the name in English.)
For those speaking other languages I am willing to use the name in their own language, whether it is Spanish, French or whatever language.
But I do not call the country Holland till I notice that non of the official names are recogniced.
I will never call my country by a nickname including the word Dutch. |

hahaha, this is the best question ever. a conceptual gem, naturally, but i love that 'dutchieland' is an option :D
anyway, i think i shall have to go with the netherlands. the german translation makes it seem like a dropkick country :p. also, i feel they tend to use that themselves. somewhat the impression i got in amsterdam in any case (train tickets and things of that ilk) |
