It's nothing but an ultra-religious thought among Muslims (some of them). Old-fashioned and silly thoughts.
You say its Kurdish? I don't believe so, in Iran it exists among different groups, it exists more among people living in villages and small towns, even Azeris, so its not Kurdish. But something is common that all those believe in that are quite religious and I dare to add uncivilized.
They think their daughter having sex with the man she loves is a shame for parents and specially for the father or brothers.
I just get sick on this.

But yes it is mostly in Muslim countries, the girls have no right to choose to whom they want to marry, sometimes their future husbands are chosen the moment they were born.

It seems to me that honor killings are only carried out in countries where women are seen as nothing more than breeding machines and servants. The men think they themselves are gods. So, they view it as, if I cannot even control a worthless, witless woman, what sort of god am I? To prevent embarrassment, and to strike terror into any other woman who might be harboring ideas of defying her master, he kills the disobedient woman.

In other words, the men are complete and total ******* and I hope the women all rise up one night and light their collective a$$es on fire while they sleep.

What a horrible thing to see.

The only reasoning I can think of for these savages to brutally and cold-bloodedly murder their own family is that they perceive that child as a veritable threat to their communal survival. They must have rationalized that they're doing something right, fair to the society and deserving to that poor victim. Sounds familiar?

How screwed up can they get. These killings demonstrate how dangerous it is not to question the norms of a society, culture or religion, especially when the norms are cruel and oppress basic human rights.

It is a stupid ,brutal savage and disgusting stone age mentality. It only seems to be conducted by the Muslim comunity. Maybe somewhere there is a tribe in the Amazon jungle who do not know any better and think it justified. In civilised countries it's called murder.

Islam's has no honors, it is just a show off religion, if a Muslim person can do the most gruesome things in the name of Allah, like murder, rape, even to there own children's, his religion will gain him respect and honors among his family and the neighbors, there is no honor killing, they just like to kill, this is a religion that don't like living life, life has no value to them, public shows, has more value that the love of a children, Muslim men like to show how rough they can be, by killing, there wife or daughters in the name religion, if the father rape there daughters, brothers there sisters, cousins, to cousins, commit rapes, there are not guilty according to Islams rules and teaching, the victims, women has to die, in the name of Honor killing, Islam teaches evil, there is nothing good that come from this religion, without shame they use Allah's name, it is OK to kill humans like an animals, that is the mentality of Muslim religion, this killing and other monstrous behavior will continue as long Islam leaves, they enjoy killing.

It is an horrible act. And not honorable at all.

It might not answer your question but, everyone mentions that its old fashioned and religious. I see nothing wrong with being old fashioned and religious. The old timers from our previous generations had less killings and less violence. So maybe being old fashioned isn't that bad. Also, nowhere in the Quran does it say that killing your wive is absolutely OK. So, I think this has nothing to do with either religion or what part of time line someone lives by.

Beemer, you probably know that this is an inherent element of kurdish culture, don't you? That way they think they can preserve the virtue of their girls-by physically destroying them!

EDIT: Let's say, maybe it is just the cruelty of the wild mountain and desert people. I am sure that there are many islamic peoples who don't have it in their cultures like say bosnians, turks, iranians etc etc. I know that the assyrian christians and jews are doing it so it is not logical to attribute it all to islam. But kurds do have this violent edge, more than any people on earth. Will it go away with education? Not really sure about that.

They are just ignorant and stupid people, and they try to give a "legitimate and religious reason" to their excessive machism.

The Quran is misunderstood "voluntarly" by many idiots, and they think that this is a protection of the social group (family, tribe,clan,whatever...).
And they are completely mistaken...

The problem exists in many islamic countries ( Pakistan,Iran,Senegal,etc...), not just in south eastern Anatolia...And there are similar pressure and crimes also in non-islamic cultures, Mediterranean and Caucasian cultures included ( either Christian or Jewish)...

I doubt this had anything to do with religion...I think that it was because the girl was simply a girl that they decided to do this. Those bystanders should be ashamed of themselves. How could they watch someone die before their very eyes?
