THESSALONIKI IS NOT GREEK

Horrible events and urban violence in Greece...Don't those scenes remind you of Rio de Janeiro or Mexico?

Poverty, crimes, corrupution, anarchy,etc,etc

It's ironic for a UE member country to have such similarities with the latino-american third-world, isn't it?

Good question, which unfortunately it wouldn't be accepted with joy from the greek users.
On your list I think that a significantly position deserves denying the existence of the minorities (one of the essential human rights).
To be the irony even bigger, their government stimulates this behavior (remember the "name problem" with Macedonia and Greek Veto for NATO entrance) promoting only one language - the law of the stronger, no matter how that affect to the others
That way Greece Government became a synonymous with ruthless politics, deceit and the pursuit of power by any means.
This picture of Greek politicians behavior reflects on the every day life, and most of the people accept that behavior as something normal and proper.

the majority of greeks are dissapointed! they do not support any of political parties. every day one new scandal reveal! in greece there is a political crisis. greeks feel that are the most poor of other europeans country. they pay more and more taxes and they buy product in the highest prices than the others europeans.. if will not take measures the goverment we will see worst events.. now greece as standarts of life is a third world country. it shame one greek take salary only 700 euro.

kostascdsc
Yeah, but why single us out? It happened in France, and Germany too, and look at Italy's political situation. No country is perfect just because it has a few letters tacked on to its title. (Although I agree Greece seems to be moving backwards but if you look at who they are surrounded by is it really that surprising?)

Latin America is not considered third World its considered semi-periphory or developing, first, second and third world are out of date anyway as the Cold War is over.

The police force is the arm of law for any normal government.

If the leaders (of the country in question) are not too honest and instead of helping people to the better life - they do just the opposite - than they need and use the police force as a guard dog.

That is the situation in the beautiful country of Greece now.

The cold weather is coming, the sun is gone, the days are shorter and the gloomy picture of surviving the winter is firmly taking its hold.

The shops are full of wonderful Christmas products - but no shoppers - because most of the normal people have no money left to shop the unnecessary items.

With the difficult economic situation in Greece now - there is no wonder, that things like the riots are taking place.

The rich and influential are dancing on the stairs of Acropolis while the poor members of Athens are closer to poverty then ever.
What else would you expect in country which is in the EU by name - but not income?

The poor and needy in Greece are lucky to earn 200 Euros per week.
And the cost of living in the winter is 250 Euros p/w.
How they do it?
How they survive?
Some of them just start rioting.

And the government immediately releasing the uniformed dogs on its own people.

So yes, they are now the oppressive force.

And the above article from Dan G?
Just one on the government payroll.

(poverty)
Greece-concerning to other Eu countries is less affected of the crisis .
Greece might not be as wealthy as Norway but you cannot say about poverty, thats sure
(crimes)
even with the last problems,Greece remain a country with much less crimes than many of the area.Especially your country (Fyrom) or the country you are trying to act you are from (Israel)
(corruption)
Find me a country with no corruption.
Better than this, find me a neighbor country with no corruption
(anarchy)
That means that Greece is a democratic country.Every person is free to believe the way he likes. If we had Junta, none of these actions would happen.

More ironic is that a Fyromian, where his police kills Albanians(crimes),their people have an average of 250E(poverty),their politician are going in prison of money crimes(corruption),is talking about Greece?
And if you are from Israel I don't even dare to mention how many Palestinians you KILL every day...

Agapi mou les desea feliz año
Well I dont like to talk like this but this is the sad true, I have never been there but I don't think that Greece has such violence problems as we do here in Latin America, the root of violence in this part of the world is because of the very evident social unequalities, is not only for ''poverty'', is because you can see a few wealthy and much poverty characteristics in one place, there is always a priviledged zone and excluded zones togheter and this is what makes in the people the way of thinking ''make money easy'' i dont know if you get it, where I live you can see the highest mall or the wealthiest country club next to very depressed neighbors, because of years and years of neglect and corruption, Its sad for us but i could notice that this in some way surprise the american and the european turist, and the first thing they see and talk about is of this details, I dont know Greece but i don't think i cant see this in cities like Athens or Thesaliniki, as i see you have a very equilibrated standard of social living besides all economic problems. And I agree with kostas.

We are political divided, economical divided, violence etc etc but we are the happiest people in the ''hell'', this is a schizophrenic place full of contradictions this is what makes life here hard and exciting at same time, its hard to explain, i love it but i hate it lol.

Nizhinsky
Greece has been simmering for years.

cpinatsi
Crime rate is very low in Greece, which is a very safe country. It is not poor either, and the street fights only have to do with a specific event where a policeman killed an underage child, and it is not addressed to any civilians.
Stop trying to create a bad image of Greece, it is not working, and everyone knows that it has nothing to do with Latin America.

Momo
How dare you compare Greece to Latin America?

In the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, even kids have guns, and they kill people even for a simple quarell.
In Tijuana (North Mexico), police is freaking scared of the local gangs, this is the urban jungle, like a modern " Wild West"
In Medellin (Colombia), if you have no wallet to give to the thief, he kills you anyway!

Congrats for your stupidity!!

Congratulations, your stupidity and if we go by that picture you posted your aga are showing. How about you look up what anarchy is around the world. Anarchists are alive, well and rioting all over Europe, there are European cities that look like WAR ZONES after these idiots get done. Case in point: I suggest taking a look at the videos from France, German Italy, Sweden, Spain and many other European cities across the continent which prove this be true and these events took place in JUST the fast few years, not decades ago:

GREEK CIGAR
Isnt it ironic for a Fyromian to talk about poverty ??? I bet you have never been in Greece, otherwise you would have noticed that 1 out of 3 cars on the streets are Porsche Cayenne, lol.

Mirage
you can always look at the bright side of it, with all those similarities greek football may become like the amazing football of those countries.
