How are Greek girls/women different to other cultures?(If at all)?

Additional Details
Many people believe that it is wrong to marry outside of one's culture.
What are your views and why?

Greek girls in my opinion of 20yrs here in Greece are incredibly different from any other nationality (girls) I have ever met!

It is not wrong to marry other nationalities/cultures ... thankfully in some cases it helps get rid of narrow mindedness! It's not easy being married to another nationality because of conflicts to do with upbringing/religion etc - it depends on each persons character. My husband admits himself that he wouldn't have been ok married to one of his own - this I can see myself .... but there are other Greek men (married to foreigners) that I know would have been better off with a Greek girl.

As I said it depends on the individual - I know my children have benefited from having the dual nationality - they are the best behaved, polite kids I know - these are not my words but the words of the Kindergarten teachers that have taught both my kids - one said she has never taught such lovely children in her 25yrs of being a teacher.

Want to add: Greek girls born outside Greece are not different from other nationalities - they are like my kids - they have benefited from both cultures

cipinatsi is correct - I am basing my comparisons with Northern Europeans (not Italians as the Italians I've met are similar) /US/AU/Canada etc

I totally disagree..The same success in marriage you can have with a person of your culture, and the same of another one.It depends always on the education of the people. But always nearing in mind cases in the middle, not extreme where religious fanatism takes place or society rules are so strict, things which can be ajusted to the mentality of another with difficulty

Your question is too general, because there are too many cultures! For example it is quite obvious that Greek girls have nothing to do with Iranian girls, who have to live by the Muslim law and are not free to go to a party. It is also obvious that they are different to the girls in Africa, who go to the nearest river to get water on a jar on their head. They are even different to catholic Italian girls, who don't shave their legs for religious reasons but are very modern apart from that. Greek girls are not like English girls or French girls either, I think Greeks are rather more conservative in sexual matters and in the concept of marriage or career. But aside from all that, Greek girls, as any other nationality, are not the same, there are differences within the same culture. So, my point is, that we are all different. As to if people from different cultures should marry, I think it is OK, as long as the cultures are similar in basic rights. Don't take this as a racist thing, but I have examples in my family with western girls (Greek and half-Greek) getting into relationships with guys from Iran and Libya, who looked progressive and advanced when they were in Europe, but ended up beating or jailing these women when they were in their family's context, and one of the women had to escape from Libya and lost her daughter forever. She saw her now after 20 years, all covered up, although she was baptised as a Christian when they were in Greece.

Leonarda, in both of the cases I mention the guys were VERY educated, very nice and open minded when they were living in Europe (one in Greece one in Holland), the one even accepted that his daghter be baptised as a Christian. There was no sign whatsoever to indicate what would happen when they went to their country. I generally believe the same as you, but I am telling you what I have seen happening.

Interesting question. I cannot answer it properly as I have a rather limited intimate experience with Greek women. But I can say this which is also true for inter and intra-cultural unions. The basic issue in a relationship is a sense of humor. And by humor (or humour if you wish) I do not mean that which makes you laugh, but rather that which you consider important and significant or not. My Virgo ex had an order and cleanliness mania and obsession to such extremes that made life together unbearable. Some order is important by I cannot program my daily need to urinate at certain times! 'Nough said.

For me at leaat combine elements form both East (insistence of keeping close-knit famillies) and West (intense individualism)

greek girls are not so much different from the other girls, it is our traditions which make the difference.
For example in Australia where i was born the girls are less free (greeks)because the greeks were trying to preserve the rules and the traditions of the greek comunity.According to this mentality they have to marry a man with greek origines etc.
Replying to biohazar, the nationalism my dear has nothing to do with the temperament, stop repeating the same scenario always. It is something irrelevant to the question

The following is a strong generalization and as with any generalization there are many, many exceptions.

In relationships, Greek Women:

• Are generally reserved around strangers.
• Like to play ‘hard to get’. They want a man to break down their barriers and sweep them off of their feet. They see this enthusiasm as passion, even if the man does that with every woman he meets.
• Do not like to let men know that they like them. See above.
• Are forced to lie to their parents about their personal lives. So, they don’t tell their families about who they are dating. Everything is a secret.
• Do not like to date foreigners. This is because their parents will disapprove, since it may mean that they will move far away from home.

As a result, Greek women behave in relationships alot like women from other cultures behaved in the 1950’s and 1960’s.

Aside from relationships, however, (for example at work, etc) Greek women are very liberated. Most of them work after marriage and while raising children. Greek women are very well educated and intelligent.

I'm not sure if Greek girls are different at all. We have all different cultures in my group of friends, and we're very much alike when it comes to our views and morals.
Maybe a few years back there would be huge differences, but cultures become more and more similar every year with globalization and all...

About marrying someone from a different culture, I say sure why not. There may be obstacles, but as long as both people want to make it work, then it's possible. After all, all marriages have obstacles. If they 're not due to cultural differences, they'll be due to other differences.

Most of us are really devoted to our families, take care of our husbands kids and houses, cook etc We are also very proud but at the same time have patience. Of course there are many exceptions to the above, but I think that's the general picture

Are there any “cases in the middle”? Fanatics even if religionists, or REGIOnalists, or NATIOnalists or “familiarists” always ALWAYS consider themselves as… hot hot lovers. Love is their “argument” about every single complex they have (complex is like a hereditary disease, if appears to parents, kids will have it to).

Source: “Fanny & Alexandros” the movie by I. Bergman
(Fanny, not funny :))

Zigzag in my opinion region/nation-nalism and in one word fanatics is the main issue in this question, because has to do with “refusal of acceptance” of being different in… culture/religion etc. My answer refers to cpinatsi's comment. Is there a problem? Shouldn’t you be polite? If you have a personal problem with this go to see a doctor!

No different than any other nationality. In fact I would say even a little more better than North Europeans since they also hold some of the good qualities of the past generations.
As for marrying outside your culture, you know that love is the governing force in that aspect and if it takes you to other cultures, make the most of it by giving a little and taking a little.

Is that all there is?
I suggest to check out ancient theatrical play Lysistrata (she who disbands armies), maybe the Greek fat wedding and have a relationship with one to find out their essence and all the richness and beauty they have.
In any culture, it's not good the family to be against your relationship. That's what my chinese teacher said. But then he is Chinese.
