how are they similar

Jane S is an ignorant, unaware that she's talking nonsense. A little history for you: the roman legions that occupied the current Portuguese territory actually came mostly from today's Hungary. The moors never occupied the entire territory and were driven away in the 12th/13th centuries, while they remained in the south of Spain for a much longer period. They didn't mix mostly, at least not in Portugal. As for the Jews, what are you, some nazi or something? Furthermore, the Portuguese also descend from the Celts and the Visigoths. So, to say that the Portuguese tend to be much darker than the Spanish is utter nonsense and you must be the only person to believe so on the face of the earth. Your whole answer seem quite based on ignorant stereotypes, so you'd be better off if you just kept your mouth shut. Apart from that, the similarities may exist but certainly not as many as one might think, otherwise I wouldn't have half the fun when I visit Spain.

Ooops! Your Account Is SUSPENDED
Similar weather and similar language but i prefer Portugal as it's
simply just a lot less plasticky and a friendlier country all together.

And the foods better too!

STOP! STOP!
I'll be the one who will answer it right:
YES!
Spain and Portugal are similar!
But they aren't the same, though!
Still, in a group of Europeans of all EU countries, portuguese and spanish are the most similar in mentality, culture, look, and many other.

Answers like yours are the reason why people keep labeling
the U.S A. people as being stupid and uneducated

Your answer indicated to me you are a nasty and malicious
person, or you are just plain ignorant.

You have shown us you have a tremendous contempt towards
other people culture, never mind you ignorance about world
history.

Portugal and Spain were never the same country, they were
two kingdoms being governed paralleled by the same king at
the same time.King Felipe of Spain, inherit the Portuguese
throne through his marriage with a Portuguese princess, and
that lasted for 60 years until the Portuguese decided to get rid of
him.

I am Portuguese and after i read your answer, i went to look at the mirror and the only dark thing i saw on my body is private
Then i looked at the dictionary and it says i am Caucasian.

What is your problem with dark skin people anyway?
Don't you like dark meat?

Portuguese and Spaniards are very similar, but not
for the reasons you mentioned.
You are not an historian, you are a story teller
shame on you.

Peace Profound

LOL
Similar culture, similar habits, similar languages (there are more than one official language in Portugal and in Spain), Portugal is beautiful and the Portuguese are really nice people!

Jane S your words are an Ode to Stupidity!
It´s easy to see that you have never been in Portugal or Spain I believe with all your ignorant stereotypes.
“Portuguese tend to be much darker than the Spaniards”? Do you have an idea of your grade of foolishness? You must be the only person in the world that thinks Portuguese are darker than the Spanish …. Hahahahahahaha!!!!!!

well im portuguese-spanish but i prefer portugal over spain 100%!!!
they are similar coz:
both are latin nations
they make up the iberian peninsula (used to be one big nation)
languages are latin and therefore similar (some say spanish is easier but whatever)...
similar in looks (mediterranean)

there you go...adeus =)

Natalie
Yes, we are quite similar.
Maybe because we share the same peninsula, and already we were a single country for some time.
-We have similar cultures and traditions
-We have a very similar language, grammar and even at levels similar to words
-We share the same currency and several rivers and mountains
But we also have many differences
-Spain is a monarchy and Portugal a Republic.
-Prices. Spain is cheaper. That is why many Portuguese to go shopping in Spain, mainly supply of cars
-...

not as much as you would think, the language itself is a little different and the culture is also different. bullfights are different and food. similar is just the landscape (not including any construction) and weather.

i think Jane gave a good answer,i think she got negative responses because she acknowledged groups that might be considered minorities such as the Jews and the Muslims

Jane S
They are Iberian. Both have a very deep history with Rome and the Moors, and the Jews. They both have very beautiful tile/ceramic work in their handwork traditions (though the styles are pretty different). Lots of basketwork, too, olives, wines, some similarities, there, too. People in both countries tend to be fairly dark, though the Portuguese tend to be much darker than the Spaniards.

They were actually one country for a little while. Portuguese are particularly sensitive about that, you know.
