Define European....
Are Greeks, Spaniards, Italians, Portuguese who has tanned skin, brown eyes and dark brown hair European?
Are Arabs with green eyes and blond hair NOT Arabs?
I will answer your question after you answer mine.
EDIT : OK, here is your answer. The reason why is Turkey isn't in Middle East but in Near East and Europe. Original Turks who immigrated from Russian steps to Anatolia had Chines features but blondish light brown hair and green eyes weren't very rare.
Anatolia is a crossroad of many many civilizations and their DNA's - oh, look Caution I Speak my Mind, I know what DNA is, lol - are mixed with Turks so we nowaday Turks come in a lot of different "shapes and colors" .. Just like Americans do.
EDIT @ CAUTION.... Dear, I have been to Greece, have Greek friends and sorry to tell you that you are not telling the actual case:). Your friends father did I huge stereotyping which again isn't the actual case, either.
Secondly, I didn't say ALL Greeks, Spaniards etc.. are like this or that. Please don't twist my words.
This discussion is made here I don't know how many times.
I know that you are very very young, when you grow old enough, I would strongly suggest you to make a trip to Turkey and see what we look like, how we behave, what we eat, how we party etc and then tell people your own ideas about us; not some friends fathers questionable remarks.
One more thing, your comments and thoughts about Arabs are leaning towards racism. That is very dangerous for an adolescent to form opinions about other societies and cultures with so little life experience.
A word of advice -whether you take it or not- don't hurry to grow up and act like a grown up that fast:)
Very educated at the age of 15? lol. You are so cute :) |

Only stereotypical Arabs are dark. My family is Lebanese and we all have blonde hair and blue eyes or light brown hair and green eyes. I'm Arab and my hair is light brown, I have green eyes, and my skin is white.
You're surprised b/c many people are used to seeing only a stereotype of Middle Easteners, but I think you would all be surprised. Besides, Turks are technically European, but they are sometimes classified as Middle Easterners and they have a similar culture to the Arabs. |

actually its not the only reason why some europeans are getting angry about being a turk and european there are many turks who have european ancestry if i said yes we're european they'd probably be ok. with that for some reasons but they think of turks when they hear the word muslim its so obvious that some europeans dont like this word |

First of all, Turkish people are not Arabic.( This doesn't mean that Arabic people have to be dark)
Secondly, look at a map, You'll see Turkey is a bridge between Asia and Europe. Many people crossed these lands, some stayed, some continued their way. So, Turkish people are a mixture of many races.
Thirdly, Ottoman Empire was a very big empire with lands neighboring the Germans and Italians, and people traveled within the country.
So, there are many people who don't look like what you expect.

And I know some arabs & kurds who had blue eyes and light skins too .. u shout forget this kind of stereotypes .. Imho

What I really don't get is; why people don't understand 'being Turkish' is a nationality not a race. We are not factory-made for God's sake! We cannot be all the same.
Besides even if all the Turks were the same -I mean dark hair, dark eyes- There are people who immigrated to Turkey centuries ago from Slavic countries which are known to have many blonde haired, white skinned people. So you won't call them Turkish just because of their appearance, even if their families have been living in Turkey for more than a century?
There are blondes in South Africa! And they don't answer nationality questions like: "My grand parents immigrated from Great Britain." They say "I'm from South Africa." What are we going to call them? "Blonde population in South Africa with European origin?" :)
It's your citizenship and where you live that decide your nationality not your ancestors. And don't overlook the fact that, Turkey is neighbours with countries like Russia and Bulgaria. Not just with Iraq and Iran. |

Some people's countries are soooooooo small and uniform that they cannot figure out what a big country with diverse cultural, ethnical, historical heritage would be.
That's why some users from Europe here cannot sort out things quite easily as the others who have visited Turkey.
Turkey is a big, big country. More than 80 cities, more than 70 million people.....Different regions, different climates, different cultures. While it is snowing at one place, people can swim and sunbathe at another place.
One can witness the same diversity when it comes to appearances.
We have all sorts of people. Dark skinned, olive skinned, pale skinned, pre-Raphaelite skinned, red heads, blonds, brunettes, green eyes, blue eyes, brown eyes.
I hope this helps. |

Turks came in different shapes and colors....just as us Mexicans....Im mexican and i have dark-brown hair, blue eyes and I am so white that my skin sometimes looks rose or red.....
The reason is the mix of different cultures that have been crossed through our countries since the ancestry times......How do you think modern Israelis look so European these days....in ancient times they should look more "semitic" than they look now....but again is for the mix they had during the diaspora.
In my case, I have this ethinical features because in my family runs some Spanish, Lebanese and French blood (as well as Ancient Mexican I think).....same for the Turks......
And yesss...we are not the exception....lighter skin persons lives in Turkey and Mexico...and guess what you may find them in Angola and Southafrica too!!!!
Race and skin colour is delimitated by many factors, such as inter-racial mix and the weather....Turkey is not as hot as Kuwait for example.....so those "Middle-eastern-like" (Semitic heritage) Turks are whiter than those "Middle-eastern-like" Kuwaitis....
EDIT:
Almost Forgot...Turks are not Arabs just as us Mexicans are not Argentineans....they share their religion and thats all....Turks are Turks and live in a Secular Republic which once was the great Ottoman empire.....they also speak Turk and the alphabet is different........ |

First i'm Turkish, so Turkish people look like typical middle easterns and they have more or less the same behaviors as well. But Turkish people think they are so modern and civiliast like one of the european countries unfourtunatly they are not. We exactly behave like one of the middle eastern people but we think we behave like europeans. This shows us that Turkish people need to discover themself.as a first step insted of showing of that Turkish people are totally modern and european ( we need to get out of this complex) |

Turks are not arabs..
im a turk i have blue eyes and blonde hair... We are very mixed real turks who are turkmen have pulled eyes..
EDIT: if a turk actually says they are european then they are fooling themselves because our culture is very different e.g. you turks did you know that european people just wipe there bum with toilet paper? they dont wash it....
reality check for some people |
