How come some Turks look like Southern Europeans while other look like Arabs and Middle Easterners?

I dont know what you are talking about, but most Turks i met, i thought they were Arabic at first. Only a handful i could confuse as Euros. Greeks and Italians have different looks/features than Turks, plus Turks are darker.

MANYYYYYY Turks look like Southern Europeans, but if you speak generally as Turkey (the whole Turkey, not just the Aegean coast) the majority look like a mix of Asians and Middle Easterners.

Yeah, your question is a tricky one. First I would like to blame the media and human imagination. For whatever reason everyone has been lead to believe that Turks all have mustaches and giant swords, ride camels and look like Ali Babba or Disney's Aladdin and that the women all run around in the ninja outfit like in the Sally Fields movie 'Not Without My Baby!' I am sure people who expect this will be shocked when they arrive and see how beautiful Turkey and Turks are.
Secondly, Turks look like people from many mixed nations, and you can see every size and shape you can imagine. Some fair people some dark, some with oriental features and some with Occidental features. Even after I lived in Turkey for 9 years when I see a Turk abroad I have to wait till they speak or I learn their name before I can see if they are a Turk or not.

I'll answer your question. Next time, ask those who look Middle Eastern which part of Turkey they're from. Or better ask them if they have Kurdish origins. Most of the Turkish immigrants in Europe have Kurdish origins. I bet those people you saw were from Eastern Turkey, where there is a Kurdish population. Kurds originate from Iran hence they look Middle Eastern for the simple fact that they ARE Middle Eastern but they are Turkish citizens, so naturally, they call themselves Turks. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Turks from the Aegean coast or Central Anatolia can't look Middle Eastern, they pretty well can but I am speaking generally.

Most Turks, i.e. out of 70 million Turks of Turkey, can pass as Southern Europeans. I'm a Turk and I have been confused for being Russian, French, Spanish etc. My dad has natural red hair. So there is high chance you are mistaken when you judge a person by his/her looks. I remember a Greek Cypriot teacher at high school and I thought she was an Indian (I'm serious, Indian) then, to my great surprise, I found out she was teaching Greek. You should see the Southern Italians and Spaniards, some can very easily pass as Middle Easterners.

Try and watch Turkish tv online from somewhere, or I don't know, VISIT Turkey. You'll see what I mean.

There has been many questions similar to yours in this section. I'm really wondering, why are you so curious about this? How will the physical features of Turks affect your views on them? For a person on her right mind, it shouldn't affect it at all.

Edit: Oestrogen, you have no idea what you're talking about. I never said all or most Southern Europeans look Middle Eastern, you can't even understand what you read, I presume? Read again, if you STILL don't understand, I'll draw it for you on paint and send you a screen shot.

All those contributers in here who claim that Turks look more middle eastern than anything are mostly the ones who actually try to diss Turks in their comments they post elsewhere.
Correlation is obvious. I think this question needs no further eliciting.
By the way for me a nicely dressed middle eastern looking girl is sexier (if not more beautiful) than a from whatever part of the European looking one.

I think Turkish people look like Turkish people as Greeks look like Greeks and Italians look like Italians.

Turks are I suppose Southern European however they're not part of the EU (never will be either) I mean I've been confused with an Arab myself and I am Greek.

It's something like in America if you do not speak English or you have poor English and you're dark either you are a illegal Mexican or you are a terrorist.

What it boils down to is some people are just very, very ignorant.

Check Turkey on the map and you will understand why. I have Persian friends that look like Italians and French people. Asian people are not all dark or with Asian eyes.

I agree with the answerer above some Turks look like Greeks/Italians but the majority looks Asian/Middle Eastern people. They are darker than Southern Europeans by the way,

Personality (I dont think casual as wearing white popes robes)which counts' but also reflect outside souls.

Any way I always find dark Headed eurasian man wo/men more attractive with a nice bone structure funny tu sparing my time with uneccessed still, but some greek or gypsy should never forget that how a huge nose& mouth belly & eyes their race have..
