How do I get from London to Amsterdam? |
I heard I can take the tube from London to Harwich and hop on a ferry to Holland and take the train from there. Is there true? Has anyone done it? How much is this going to cost? |

London to Harlow will cost you about £25 single. Ferry costs £22 single. Train to Amsterdam will cost you about £30. That's a total of £80ish. And that's only one way, a return on all of those doubles the fare to about £160. I say take a plane. Good luck! |

There used to be a good connection between Amsterdam and London, traveling via Harwich and Hook of Holland, but they changed the boat, and with that the times, and now you you have to leave London Liverpools street around 6:20 to arrive in Amsterdam at about 18:30. (You will not be able to use this connection on the Sunday, as the train does not leave early enough.)
Or leave around 20:00 and arrive in Amsterdam the next morning around 10:00
Return you will leave Amsterdam just before 12:00 to arrive in London 22:30, or for the overnight, 19:00 to 9:00.
As the times change depending on the day you travel you will have to check them before buying the ticket.
With the overnight you need to book accomodation too, which makes this option more expensive.
Check for prices and special offers on this website:
http://www.stenaline.co.uk/ferry/rail-and-sail/holland/
The Eurostar train via Brussels will be as fast or faster and often around the same price, (but as the prices change depending on when you book and how lucky you are in getting the special offers, it is hard to make a real comparison.)
For flying to Amsterdam, EasyJet is good from all three London airports they use, Ryanair flies to Eindhoven and is not very good as it takes a long time to get to Amsterdam as well as a lot of money.
KLM and several British airlines sometimes have special offers too.
Flying mostly takes about 5 hours, with traveling to and from the airport, checking in and security control. |

It depends where you live, but you can fly from Luton, Stanstead, Heathrow etc. My daughter is flying from Stanstead n a few days to Eindhove(also in Holland) and she is paying GBPs 3 return. You can also take the train and go through the Eurotunnel. |

You'd have a job, the tube only serves London and doesn't go anywhere near Harwich.... |

Get a plane from Stansted off of Easyjet. It's well cheap and the journey only lasts about 40 mins. Then at Schipol, get the train to Amsterdam Centraal and a tram to your hotel. I suggest a hostel in Leidseplein, it's nice and central and you can go to some nice coffee shops by foot (Rookies, Dolphin, Mellow Yellow) and the Paradiso is only round the corner for great gigs.
My plane cost me £40 both ways, the hostel was £20 a night between three people, and the only other expense is really that Amsterdam is just really expensive!! |

Hey Arthur, I've been to Amsterdam twice and going by plane would be much much easier for not much more cost than a ferry. Going by ferry won't be that much cheaper as well as you've got to buy food etc... as the journey is longer, not to mention being sea sick!

there is a train from Liverpool Street station in London to Harwich, where you catch the high speed ferry to the Hook of Holland, and train from there on to Rotterdam or Amsterdam etc.
You can go by coach from London Victoria to Holland also, via the channel ferries - very cheap.
Or you can become a VIP politician or marry into the Royal Family and fly from RAF Northolt into the air base at Valkenburg on the outskirts of Den Haag. |
