I have a friend from Poland who is very smart. Her highschool education far out-performed what is provided here in the U.S. Not surprised at all....

This doesn't surprise one little bit as my wife is a scientist and we have many friends the same and many US universities fight over Polish doctoral students.

We just came back form the US and compared to US people Polish will outstrip them educationally any day, we went into a restaurant in Atlanta Georgia and my wife is very striking with an unusual haircut, and the one of the people on the next table asked where my wife had her hair cut, and she replied Poland in Pulway, and then the woman asked, seriously.... "how long does it take you to get there and back then?"

And in response to Micheal J's, you mention "farmers" working on the fields with horses, what the hell has that got to do with anything we are talking about here?

those who have any doubts that Polish are smart are just simply stupid n thats for sure cos they think of some hmm cant even name it a stereotype which is spread in the US only n i dont know cos Poles made many things to help the US build the country and if u dont know that n if u cant distinguish crazy stereotypes from truth it just shows UR stupidity

in Poland all ppl have general knowledge of EVERYTHING
ppl here know history n geography n u guys from other countries ask here stupid questions its funny when i read Americans who ask here on YahooAnswers "where is Turkey" "which ocean is the biggest" etc OMG if u came to Poland and asked a person any person a question of this kind they wud think u r stupid cos cmon how cant u know such things??? n most of u have no clue bout it so -- its u who is rather not much intelligent but i guess its not ur fault but ur educational system, u just study bout ur own country n seems u cant even handle that,
i spent a year in one of the American high schools n i must tell u i didnt have to study cos the level there was low well not according to others but me, i didnt have to spend much time on studying n yet i graduated w/high honors while some American kids didnt graduate at all, i talked to many ppl who went abroad for schools as foreign exchange students n they all were makin fun of level of education in other countries cos its ...the way it is :P

so ok, i dare any person to have a smart conversation w/me lets check who is smarter lets talk bout things that all ppl shud know n see who knows more

its what i always say- ppl who know nuffin are the loudest when sharing their 'sophisticated' opinions, n its too bad that most ppl arent aware of their lack of knowlege geez ppl read books follow some news travel n experience things then commen on em otherwise u r not reliable n those who ask dont wanna read crap they wanna answers that really make some sense so be objective n know when to shud up n dont particiapte in a conversation u dont even understand cos as we see in examples u only make urself look more stupid

and btw, i like all ppl n i know that there are smart n stupid ones everywhere n still its funny to follow some pathetic answers i feel sorry for those who arent knowledgeable in a certain topic but are so eager to talk

n didnt u figure out why Americans tried to make fun of Poles? cos after wars there were so many Polish ppl comin to the US, and if there is so many ppl of other nation comin to u its visible n then those ppl bother u n what can u do in that situation? make jokes cos u cant send em home or fight em

at least in my country kids can go to schools w/o bein worried that sb will use em as a target cos there are no such things in here, n we usually talk instead of aiming guns at each other

so before judgin- do some research and get to know bout what u r gonna talk n also be objective n be able to judge ur things too if u dont do it then u r not a good opponent in a conversation swearin wont help u either cos as we all know its not an argument but it shows ur low manners

im nice to ppl from other nations n dont judge em thru their nationality n ppl who label others are just narrow minded,

go to 'Languages (Polish)' or 'Poland' ask a question n see how many ppl will give u nice answers w/o bein sour like many of u

Not surprised at all! They have very strict discipline in schools and education compared to North America... Even bums on the street could tell you where Poland is on a map, whereas some Americans don't even know that Europe is a continent.

I've known quite a few Poles and Polish Americans. There was not a single one of them I would consider less than above average. Your statement does not surprise me at all.

Not at all surprised. I spend a month in Bialystok, Poland in 2004, teaching convsersational English and was more than impressed with the people in my class and those that I met. I also went to the local elementary and high schools to meet the children. If American kids took school and education as seriously as the Polish students, we would be much better off as a nation. Polish people with regard to their level of ambition, appreciation, work ethic, etc. puts us to shame. Some of my students traveled 2-3 hours for 1.5 hours of class.

Yes they are and that is a true statement. Did you know if it weren't for the Poles that came to Jamestown, Virginia, everyone would freeze because most* of their survival skills including building houses and windows.....
A lot of people tend to forget that.
