How do you pronounce 'Krakow'?

Is it Kra-Kow or Krak-ov or Krak-off, thanks.

If you're pronouncing it in English it is generally accepted to say "Kra-Kow"

In Polish it is "Kra-kuff".

Though it is spelled Krakow, the w at the end is not a hard "v" sound. There is also a line over the o in Polish, "ó" which gives it a "u" sound.

A good example of the Polish pronounciation is on the Wikipedia page for Kraków - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krakow

crack-oov

- read 'a' like u read 'u' in 'up'
- rhotic 'r' - u gotta read it
- dont read 'oo' in a long way like u do for example in the"moon", just make it a short sound
- 'v' sounds like 'f' almost, sth in between 'v' n 'f'
- stress the first syllable =)

if u know how to read the phonetic alphabet then here u go:
/ˈkrɑkʊf/

(some ppl wrote 'uf' which is ok when we talk bout the phonetic alphabet, when we use this alphabet we shall write the word in / / otherwise it may just confuse the person,
if u write 'uf' then the English speakin person may think that by 'u' u mean the sound "you", if one doesnt use the phonetic alphabet then s/he shud be more careful as for typing some letters cos its easy to mix the phonetic alphabet with this 'regular' one)

In Polish the proper pronunciation is Krakuv

I am an American and I was taught to say Krak-oofv.

Like Crack-oof.

Kind of like the oof sound of the word "aloof" or "goof" or the the word "loofah".

The "ow" at the end of a word makes that sound.

Kra - koov/koof

The "w" has a harsh "v"-ish sound, and the "o" sounds elongated ("oooo", not "owww" or "ohhh").

The English-ized pronunciation is "Kra - cow"... since we pronounce "w" as a softer sound.

ali
crack - off
