How is quality of life in Europe? |
Hello. I am from Brazil and have been living in the U.S. for 7 yrs now. A friend of mine from Brazil told me he has been to Europe 5 times in 6 yrs now, and he's completely in love with it. He said he would never come to the U.S. He tells me wonderful things about Europe. It makes me envy him! I don't like the quality of life here in the U.S.: food, culture, politeness, etc. How different is it in Europe? I know there is no perfect place anywhere, but can you tell me some different things that you have there from the U.S.? |

European living is different totally than living in America. You will get a BIG rush when you get to the airport. I have been there every year as a child visiting my grandmother. It has been a while, but I still have fond memories.
The food is so wonderful. It is homecooked and feels like they put every effort into all the ingrediants. Here in America, fine dining is just considered slapping things together to make people happy "comfort food". The real comfort food in Europe, or anywhere you go there IS REAL food in front of you. Farmers markets are the best. You can experience the lush of food, atmosphere, and people all at the same time.
I enjoyed train rides, buses and European transportation. Nothing like America. It is more advanced. You do not even need a car in Europe if you are in a small town and know a lot of friends and family. The train system or the Bullet train is THE BEST way to Zip around. I wish we could have that here because the commuters sure would have more pocket change to spare.
Especially if you are from another country you might not want to drive that much. Have someone else drive you!
Also bring your camera or a very small digital video. Lots to see and do. Make sure your trip is well planned out. I have known people that do not plan usually sit in a cafe for three hours and eat food and just watch people half the day.
Go out and explore the country. But be prepared for the unknown. Have the maps, ask questions, rent videos in the library, become informed, and learn the languages first at least the basic, "How to find the bathroom!" or Danke and Bitte....
Have a great time

It differs country to country, but what you see in Michael Moore's SICKO is true.
In Germany you get 8 weeks holiday, free health care for everyone. Rents are fixed at a reasonable level. Education is free, including university level.
People generally live less than 30min from work, and public transport is excellent and widely accessible. There is an absolute limit on the working week. Its illegal for your employer to make you work more than 48 hours (or 35 hours in France) |

Isn't it odd that many Europeans especially the young ones actually envy the Americans for the large homes, the big cars and freeways, the modern conveniences, a vibrant entertainment industry, the pace of life, lower taxes .... It's so much harder to scale the career ladder in Europe, whereas in America everything seems within reach.
While in the U.S. I miss the rich culture of Europe, the festivals, the historical significance of its cities, the cuisine, good wine and affordable prices, great fashion, the stylish crowd, the mediterranean sea and the possibility of traveling to interesting places very often. |

i like the quality of life, i live in the u.k (I'm British) and i think it is very good, most people are polite, weather in most of Europe is good (sadly not in u.k), obesity levels are less, i don't know about culture. Also a lot of European teams are good at most sports. if i could live anywhere in Europe i would live in Spain, south France (better weather than north) or Italy) |

It is so much different!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mountains which you never see in the us,, TREES...animals, cows that aren't going to be killed once they are big enough to process into burgers, healthy living, young drinking age :), smaller cars that aren't gas guzzlers, nice people, unspoiled people, windy and sunny at the same time (never humid) and soo much more. Trust your friend and go visit europe but please don't just go to paris and milan or something--vist munchen, germany; zurich switzerland; barcelona, spain; nice, france; greece; ireland; all of britain... :D go see it all haha |

We're not as fat as Americans. We speak a much wider variety of languages. We don't go to war at the drop of a hat. We don't torture prisoners or incarcerate them beyond the reach of justice as in Guantanamo Bay. We have national leaders with brains, unlike the USA. |
