How long can you stay at your hotel after their checkout time?

Lets say your hotel's checkout time is 12 Noon, but your flight isn't until 10pm. Are you allowed in your room past the checkout time until you head off to the airport at night?

I just want to determine if I could explore the near-by area and be able to go back and forth to my hotel room--or not

Check-Out Time is the latest time that you may keep the room. After that time the hotel stuff must get in the room to clean it and prepare it for the next guests. If you want to keep the room for more (until 6pm) you will need to pay a "Day Use" charge and of course it is always a matter of availability.

However, depending on the hotel, you may get a late check-out for free. You just have to ask the front desk. If they cannot offer you a late check-out (eg. if other guests are waiting to check-in) they will probably store your luggage and suggest you things to do in the area until your departure time.

No...if you CHECK OUT...you must GET OUT.
You will not be able to stay anytime after...but to kill time you can wait it out in the lobby, bar, or restaurant of the hotel!

You can't stay past check out time. They will charge you for another night. You could probly get away with staying maybe a hour later than checkout but definitly not all day. You may want to consider calling the hotel you plan to stay at and tell them your situation they may consider allowing you to check out late or give you a discount.

Checkout time is checkout time.
If you wish to remain in the room a bit longer you will be charged with a fee usually 50% of the full one.
The semi checkout time is usually at 6pm.

That is so... unless the room has been scheduled to be given to another hotel customer.
In any case, you will be allowed to store your luggage in the hotel and pick them up later.
Every hotel offers this service.
So... you can store your luggage and get going to the city to explore until your flight time.

Be sure you check with the receptionist for the extension of checkout time though.

Enjoy!

You must talk to the hotel manager. Tell him your situation. He may let you stay longer for a reduced fee, sometimes 50% as Trek said, or maybe less. It depends on the hotel, the manager and his mood.

Usually you have to check out. However, when I was in Cairo, check out time was 11 am and my flight didn't leave until 11 pm. When we spoke to the managers, we were not allowed to stay in the room without getting charged, but they did allow us to keep our luggage there and we were allowed to hang out in the lobby until the driver arrived to take us to the airport. All you can do is ask!

You can usually get a later check-out time, but no later than a few hours. They need to clean the room and have it available for rental.

However, if the hotel isn't full, you might be able to work out some kind of arrangement with them. At the very least, you should be able to store your luggage there.

You may leave your luggage at the reception and go out and get your luggage back, when it is time to leave. But you can't keep the room after check-out, unless the hotel agrees. They may agree if they don't have any customers arriving who have booked your room. But even then, according to the law, they can let you stay through the day but charge you half the price of one entire day.

Not usually, check out means just that, although you can obviously use the other hotel facilities, once you've checked it's a done deal.

From personal experience the only thing you can do is to leave your luggage in the hotel (in the entrance hall or in a safe area) and explore the area till your time for leaving comes....

But you have to leave the room in the checkout time.
