Sir Marmalade Beauville-Lobe IV

How much money should I give my son?

My son is going on a week-long jaunt to Amsterdam next month. How much cash would a 19 year old chap need to fully appreciate a week long period of debauchery and booze? I was thinking £80,000.
Additional Details
Do bear in mind the expense of debauchery these days.

i think you put the decimal point in the wrong place

£800 will be enough thats £100 a day

Well, I am an American and i dont really know the current exchange rate, but that does seem like a hell of a lot of money. Just give the guy enough for a weeks worth of food. Some for transportation, and some extra for gifts to bring back for friends and family. Thats what my parents did for me When I went to Japan. They gave me around $1,500 dollars, plus the $500 I had saved up for the trip.

Dominic II
I'd say maybe 1-2000 dollars (American dollars) i'm going to London, so I'm saving up about $1000

No way- that is far too much! I was thinking less than a tenth of that! So if he got 80k then he has 10k to spend each day?!

Wayy too much!

none...if hes considered old enough and responsible enough to go to amsterdam by himself then he should be more than capable of paying for it by himself too!

Crazy money for a weeks hols...Your son will get used and abused you should be protecting him from danger not setting him up for it....Sorry if that sounds hard but that is how I feel...

ordiofile
I think he would also need a 37 year old female chaperone.

that wouldn't last you 1 day
and you want your son to last all week on that
get real
you need to double it if not triple it

its_me_farhan2005
I would suggest to make it even 100, 000 pounds! and dont forget to give your credit card and some blanks cheque just to be safe in case he ran out of money.;)

I must say I feel somewhat humbled here. You see, I myself travel to Amsterdam this very afternoon, carrying in my wallet a scant 125 euros and 40 pounds stirling.

The Duchess refuses to allow me to take more, for fear I'll spend it with ladies of negotiable virtue, or, worse, alcohol.

Weez.
Maybe about £8000 he has £100 everyday, that pays for the supermarket, alcohol, emergencies...Whatever. But £80,000 is a bit over the top.

Lady Carole.
He`s 19 he can pay his own way !!

Absolute Rotter
My dear sir I think you can at least double that you don't want him slumming it do you, anything less than £100,000 and he'd be mixing with the riff raff. Those upper crust cat houses aren't cheap as you well know old boy. Tip top.

Tell your 19 year old kid to get out and get a job to pay for his own debauchery.

Be careful on this one. I know you want your son to have a good time, BUT I see 3 problems with this. 1). Make sure he is responsible - NO flashing cash!! I would hate to read about him being a victim of a crime. 2). Boys will be boys - Don't let him be the big spender (his friends will think He will pick up the check EVERY time). 3). I hope he doesn't think that you will fork over money every time he goes away. Does he work? Did he save the money to pay for this trip? Is this a loan to him, or an outright gift? A week vacation with friends is meant to be enjoyed, but at the same time can he be responsible enough to have fun, but not get in over his head??

I think thats a bit too little. You dont want him running out of cash. Dont be greedy, put your hand in your pocket a bit deeper. (You might just find your brain in there)

I would say that is well enough! I might even say to go a bit lower. But, If I were your son I would truly appreciate an amount like that. Well, whatever you're willing to offer your son is what's best. Do what you can:]
