Well as you are obviously are aware (by the fake ID note) it is 18 to be able to smoke or purchase weed in a coffeeshop. Not only that - you have to be 18 to enter one as well.

Yes the chances are you will get ID checked.Due to clampdowns by the local council, coffeeshop owners are more and more cautious to protect their licences and therefore do not allow underage persons on the premisis

Fake ID's - well I guess it depends on what the ID is and how good the quality is. As per Dutch law you are required to carry around offical ID e.g. national ID card (offical government issued) or passport - so coffeeshop staff, if in doubt will request this if you start issuing bogus (e.g.) University cards with DOB info. If you have a good forgery of a passport or a drivining licence or ID card then fine, it would work - but otherwise not. However, ask yourself if you really want to run the risk of carrying forged ID!

If this is the be-all and end-all to your visit to Amsterdam, then just get an 18 year old to go with you, buy the stuff and smoke it somewhere quiet.

I am telling you in NO uncertain terms. You MUST be 18 and the coffeeshops are very keen indeed on ID as they are strictly police monitored so you will only get big trouble if you try to fake it. Cannabis use is conditionally tolerated in Netherlands and is still illegal. Being under age and also with fake ID will mean that you get yourself booted out of the country barred from returning and charged with criminal offences. And so you should ! Respect the law !!

You must be 18 and be able to produce a real ID, they can spot fakes a mile away and the police may just stop in to check as well. If there is any doubt the reputable coffeeshops will ask you to leave.

My favorites are:

18. If you're under 18 and you're in a coffeeshop, then it's the coffeeshop that's breaking the law. Therefore if you look like you could be under 18, they will ask you for your ID. If the police comes in and spot someone who is under 18 the coffeeshop will get a fine or will be closed down. This regulation differs from town to town. Amsterdam coffeeshops are overrun by tourists so I suppose they can spot most foreign fake ID's. I myself worked in a coffeeshop near the German border and I knew how to detect a fake German ID. So beware!

i don't know what **** ur health class has been feeding you but no one has ever died from marijuana, it doesn't short in your lifespan, by the way you have to be 18 to buy weed in a coffee shop.

You have to be 18 to smoke in the coffee shops there. And I doubt, as a foreigner, fake ID would work. They will probably ask to see your passport for ID.

the legal age to smoke it in the netherlands is 18.
i wouldnt suggest a fake i.d, the last thing you want is to get put in a prison cell abroad.
if you really want to smoke it then you can readily buy it everywhere from street sellers to shops, i doubt they will i.d you if you look old enough but make sure your discreet about where you do it!

what the hell why would u use a fake id so u can go to jail and why would u smoke weed im learning in health class this year that smoking weed u lose 20 minutes of ur life by smokeing that!!!

I would guess 16. I've been and they sell class a illegal mushrooms over there in most shops. The police just turn a blind eye to it all. And you wouldn't even need to smoke it because the bars and cofffee shops reak of the weed smoke. I would say be careful with yourself though, it isn't a particularly safe place to be. Choose life, not drugs.
