How safe is Istanbul Turkey?

I am considering taking a trip to Turkey, alone. If I know the language fairly well, will I be as safe there as say Dallas Texas or another large city in America? I am a 26y/o girl longing to take this trip!
Additional Details
If any of you would like to tell me more about Turkey, please email me, then we could IM. All of you (except my fellow Americans without a brain) have reinforced my dreams of going to Turkey! I WILL be visiting soon!

i agree that Istanbul is safer than any other us city...
try not to walk alone in the night... keep ur bag in safe place...
turkish people are known for their hospitality ... if u ll need help , they ll be glad to help... and they wont let u free till u ll solve this problem...
language is not a big problem...as most of youth can speak fluent english... even non-english speakers will help u with "tarzanic" language:D

No need to worry about anti-US sentiment. It's all about politics not about culture or people. You'll be welcome as anybody else. If you are a tourist you're viewed as a guest and people show you their hospitality. Most people don't care where you are from.

Well, lets say this i am a 34 yo Turkish man living in Bedford, MI and i feel much more uncomfy even if i am not in TX than Turkiye, so do the math. Think think about it and book your ticket before the high season starts . So that, you can get a cheaper ticket to fly. Enjoy the fab experience in Turkiye which would be once in a lifetime only, so dont ever miss it and take that chance and when you go to Turkiye, go to Bursa and say hello to all my friends and family. I really miss'em.
Regards-

I loved Istanbul! I felt perfectly safe as a single, attractive young woman of 29, even in the bazaar, however, I always travelled in a group of friends with both males and females.
