istanbul is a great city. Just practice any other safety tips you would use anywhere else. No dark streets......and all that. The people there are very friendly and helpful. Its one of my favorite cities in the world. |

Just make sure you don't walk into abandoned streets that are especially dark. Just use your good judgment as if you were walking the streets of New York at night. Stick around crowded places and streets that are well lit.
Edit- For those of you who put thumbs down, I doubt you have ever even been to Istanbul. As an American, I can say that Istanbul is very safe and if you use your good judgment, nothing bad will happen. Stop making Turkey look like some poverty-stricken country filled with barbarians. |

It is very safe. People are very well protected. and the best thing if you need something people will come to help you.
Istanbul is crowded day and night. We people like going out until late hours so no problem at all.
edit: misviv the thing you said about Taksim is not true at all. |

For a single girls there is not safe area at all, if you are walking alone, even you could get harassed by the police, even get raped in the police stations, just remember the victims are the guilty in turkey, when you go out make sure you have some male friend or family around you. |
